I’m thinking of having a punch with some rum for my son’s 18th birthday party–Most of my son’s friends are 19 and older (which is the drinking age in Ontario)..so would it really be wrong to have it?

No but remember that you could be liable if any of them get caught in a dui incident afterwards.

i would say so long as EVERYONE is of drinking age, then go right ahead, but if there are some drinking who are not of age, then….in the US you can get in BIG trouble for serving alcohol to minors.

as long as you’re not serving it to the minors it’s fine. But understand that the minors will probably get their hands on some anyway, and you can be held liable for any actions of theirs that cause harm or damage

Of course it is ok! My god people believe everything the government tells them about alcohol. Your body doesn’t magically accept alcohol when you turn 19, and you certainly wont magically change when your 19. Same person.

In the eyes of the law, wouldn’t you be contributing to the delinquency of a minor if you have it available for anyone under 19? Your son would be there and underage. He might feel left out if he couldn’t drink like his friends, but if someone told that he did drink at the party, you could have some trouble if it got back to authorities, right? Guess it depends on how important it is to you and what you are willing to risk as far as breaking laws goes in your country.

My opinion, for what it;s worth, is that anyone old enough to die for their country should be able to toast those fallen before them… So my opinion is that 18 is good enough…

don’t know the law in canada, but you are his parent so he should be able to drink under your watch, in your home.
i would reccomend letting everyone stay over for a while until they sober up to prevent any accidents.

Is it worth the potential trouble and in the eyes of the law, you are contributing to the delinquency of a minor. If anyone had and accident after they left your home or just got pulled over with alcohol in their system, it’s you that will have lots of legal trouble.This really depends on how important it is to you and what you are willing to risk as far as breaking the law.

even if the guests were underage, most underage kids drink. better for them to do it inside then in a parking lot.
just be sure to not be there during the party, so nobody can say “well the mother was present, so she had to know” sure, it’s technically your home and the law will say you should know, but if anything happens you’ll get off lighter as opposed to having you drinking alongside them…. it sucks you can’t be open about it, but the law would rather have people sneak around.
