Would it be inappropriate to take my two year old son on my honeymoon?

My ex wife and i are divorced because my ex got violent and became an alcoholic shortly after giving birth to my son. And well against my better judgment about a month ago i let my ex take my son and well she put him into the hospital for a week. And i have full custody of my son now. And well my fiance and i are getting married on Nov 14th and then we leave on the 16th on our cruise for our honeymoon. And my son wont leave my hip or anything and when i leave his sight he starts throwing a huge fit and starts screaming and sobbing. So i am nervous about leaving him for a week. My fiance suggested we take him with us since we bought a ticket for him in the first place but my parents offered to take him while we are gone and everything. But i just do not want to leave him for some reason. Would it be a bad idea to bring him along with us?

While I wouldn’t have wanted a 2 year old on my honeymoon, given the circumstances, I think it would be cruel to leave without him. Your new wife has to know that he’ll always come first. If she has a problem with this, don’t go through with the marriage. But since she suggested, just do it. Sounds like you moved up as far as women go.

Since your fiance, is ok with it, I don’t see why not. It sounds like it is very important for him to feel secure at the moment, I don’t think I could leave him.

There will be other opportunities at a later date to get away all by yourselves, once your son is feeling more secure

typically, children dont belong on a honeymoon. that said, a lot of people never have a honeymoon, i am one of them lol…if you both feel comfortable taking him along and want to turn it into more of a family trip then go for it. talk it over with your fiancee’ make sure shes ok with it, after all shes marrying both of you, youre a package deal, my kids are 10 and 2 and i wouldnt want to leave them for a week.

if your fiance is ok with it, take him. you may not get all the alone time you want but you have the rest of your lives for that. you will have a wonderful time with him and a miserable time without him. if you don’t take him, he will be the only thing on your mind the whole time.

Generally they have children’s programs on cruises that your child could probably go to during the day to allow you to spend time with your new wife. I don’t blame you for wanting to take him along-I’d be worried also. He’s been through a lot it sounds like, and just needs to be with his daddy.

If you both are OK with it, why not? I see no reason to sacrifice the trip, and it sounds like you can’t leave him with anyone. As long as it’s what you both think is best, take him along. You could have a second honeymoon at some later time when things have settled down, maybe on your first anniversary.

It really depends on what you’re wanting. If you want a family vacation and to cater the trip around the needs of a 2 year old, then that’s fine. If you are wanting an actual honeymoon, then it would be better to leave him with your parents. It sounds like your fiance is very understanding and kind. : )

Fallow your gut feeling and take him. Obviously your wife to be has a good heart and also feels comfortable with you taking him along, if she didn’t she wouldn’t have mentioned it to you. Also if you don’t take him you might be getting calls from your parents asking if your son can talk to you or you might spend the whole time calling to see if his ok or worrying about him; causing the cruse to be stressful on you and your new wife. I am sure she understands that she is going to spend the rest of her life with you and will have plenty of other times to be alone with you but for right now your son needs you and she supports you. Be thankful for her.

Some cruise lines have on-board childcare. Have you looked into that?

If your bride-to-be is okay with taking him along, then go ahead, especially if there is on-board childcare.

You are going to be a family and your new bride will be your little guy’s full time mom, so why not celebrate becoming a family and take him along and include him in all the photos you’ll have taken while on board.

It would be a lot of fun, but this is a honey-moon. Prolly about the only time you and your new wife will not have to worry about parental duties and can enjoy yourselfs. It’s not selfish, it’s not wrong, it’s normal.

You son will have a little seperation anxiety, but if you start leaving him for a few hours, and start leaving him a little more with your parents, then he will get used to them and it wont be a shock when daddy is gone for a week.

Given the circumstance I would say take him…especially since your wife is being understanding. Most the time I tell newly weds to enjoy and celebrate thier wedding and new life to gether and let the babies stay at home with releavavties but you son doens’t sound like he could handle being with out (or you him)…
Just be sure to take a second honeymoon when he is older
