With Ohio’s underage drinking law, can a parent buy an underage child a drink in public?

Ohio is one of the states that allows underage consumption with the presence of a guardian/parent. I know this is true for the home but am unsure about the public.

Is it allowed for a parent to buy his or her son an alcoholic beverage in PUBLIC? Say at a restaurant or sporting event? As long as that can be proven? Im having trouble finding documentation for that.

a parent cannot buy a drink in public for an underage child.

Now if your at a sporting event and lets say the child (lets say 17 yrs old) is in the stands and the father goes and buys two beers, by himself…goes back to the stands and gives it to his son…no one would really no the wiser. I’ve seen it done. You can get away with it more at sporting events/ concerts/etc. than you could at a resturant where the constantly card and ask for information.

You need to look up the word procurement. It does not mean buy or purchase. some states read that an underage person can not be served an alcholic drink. this would also make it illegal for a parent to provide a drink to an underage person in thier own home as well.

No, it is passing the law to the minor for his protection, which is wrong.
