My son is 27 years old and moved out when he was 18 years old. We have always been very close and he never had any problems opening up to me. I moved to another state last year and live about 2 hours from him. He has visited a couple of times and we always left on good terms. I saw him about 6 months ago and have not heard from him since then. He ignores my calls and emails. He recently got a new phone number and did not tell me. He did give the number to my daughter who gave it to me. I called him last week using a restricted number hoping he would pick up the phone. He did…but as soon as he heard my voice he hung up. My daughter told me that she visited him about 4 months ago and that he was hooked on illegal drugs. She called him a few weeks ago and asked him why he won’t call me and he said he does not want to talk about it. As his mother I am concerned and I want the best for him. But I am so confused as to why he wants me out of his life. Any ideas or advice? I love him and would never do anything to hurt him. Why would he do this to me?

maybe hes embarrassed on how bad his life has gone down the drain with all them drugs that he cant bare the thought of having you see him in that condition. YOur son lacks disapline. He needs to kick the drugs and get sober before he can face you.

I am sorry to hear how much pain your son is putting you through. Speaking from experience, it sounds like your son is doing drugs. It’s not that he doesn’t love you or want you in his life but the drugs have taken over his thoughts and it is hard for him to determine good from bad right now. The 2 of you were once so close and he knows you will be very disappointed in him. Now that you know he is doing drugs you should drive to him and see if he will speak to you. If he does have a drug problem then you need to do an intervention on him immediately but you will need to be strong. Your son is crying out to you for help by ignoring you so be the great mother that you are and go rescue your son but please don’t wait too long. He will thank you for it one day!

my son is 36 and will do anything for me. my daughter is 38 and won’t do anything for me. she probably won’t come to my funeral. don’t worry about it.

He’s doing this to you bc you guys have always had a good relationship. That probably meant more to him than you realized. It seems like he knows his addiction would hurt you the most and he’s trying to protect you by not telling you about it. Also, drugs can make ppl turn against the ones they love. it sounds like he’s in pretty deep. Maybe you could somehow set up an intervention. I don’t know your financial situation but if you could pay for an interventionist…i’d look one up. If not…you can find guidelines on the internet for interventions and try to set one up yourself. You’d have to have someone involved that he accepts into his life right now….so they can set up his walking into the place where you hold the intervention. Drugs are really tough…your son is sick and it’s not your fault. It’s not his anymore either….he doesn’t have the strength to know how to get out…but you’ve got to help him. He loves you…he doesn’t want to disappoint you with his problem…you have to be proactive with this if you want a wonderful relationship with him. good luck.

He feels shame and doesn’t know how to face you about his drug problem. Get your daughter to pass the message to him say you’re always there for him and tell him to call you when he’s ready.

Do you know while I was reading down that I wondered if he had gotten involved with something like drug taking. I think if you had a good relationship he knows in his heart you care and would be concerned, maybe he doesn’t want you to worry about him and knows you will if you see the state he is in. Shame can play a great part, everyone wants to leave home and positive transitions to happen and I suppose you just know when you are letting yourself down it affects those who love you. I think you are missing the point, I think he doesn’t want you to see him like he is.
