What’s the matter with the people who make laws in American – no wonder I call it the KINDERGARTEN CONTINENT?

Here we go again! In Virginia you can buy a gun and go and shoot up half a school when you’re 18 – but a mother can’t let her 16 year old son have alcohol at home on his birthday with a load of other boys despite confiscating the car keys!

Apparently he’s got to wait till he’s 21 before he can ‘have the keys to the door’ & get drunk!

The soppy bastards have given this mum 27 months jail time – it was going to be 8 YEARS apparently at one stage.

Recently I heard how the police in one state prosecuted a driver while intoxicated – ok no problem there, but also prosecuted his passenger under some daft law of ”being intoxicated while in public”

This is the same country a superpower no less that has this ridiculous law that a 16 year old can’t have sex with someone older than 18!

And they call this draconian country a democracy – no wonder I call the damn place the KINDERGARTEN CONTINENT!

To those answerers who feel the US’s strict drinking and sex laws has helped make it a superpower I must quote ironically, from one of your post popular film franchises:-

Get my drift people – this so called superpower seems to be destroying itself from within – I just wish it would hurry up and finish the job – so the rest of the world could have some peace from it!!!

The Kindergarten Continent? Hmmmm? Assuming you’re from UK. We have defeated you in two wars and have saved your rear end in several others. If we are a “kindergarten continent”, what does that make you? Personally I have never had to rely on some kindergartner to save me or had one to defeat me. What does it feel like to be weaker than a kindergartner?

and maybe the reason we don’t have a bunch of drunks running around on the streets is because we have “public intoxication” laws.

I agree with the first two answers? Where are you from…since you want to bash the US represent your nation.

So you are for 16 year old drunk drivers and 35 year olds with 16 year old girlfriends? Wow….and I wonder why we are the superpower…..

The underage drinking law and not serving to minors is meant to protect them but you are right about that, most teenagers drink anyway. The jail time seems a bit harsh as well. No allot…We need the room for the real criminals. However, the law against 16 yr old girls being with anyone over 18 usually is not enforced except by parents who want to get rid of a loser boyfriend. A 35 yr old man and a 16 yr old key word GIRL though is just wrong….Shooting up a school is illegal no matter what your age. Usually the being intoxicated in public law is only enforced if someone is being a nuisance or causing problems. Maybe he/she lashed out at the police. Hmmm never heard it called the kindergarten continent before….your funny mate! Why not worry more about what is happening in your own country?…..

I totally agree with some laws being totally incorrect. I once heard a designated driver got arrested because the people he was driving were drunk. What’s with that? He was trying to protect his friends and innocent others from what could happen. As far as 16 year olds with 35 year olds: whatever people want to do is their own business. If two 15 year olds have sex there isn’t a problem, but if the same 15 year old has sex with a 25 year old everyone is up in arms about the absurdity of their relationship. It is up to the parents to monitor their children and guide them to make the right decisions–not the state or federal government.
As far as the punishment for that lady who had alcohol for her son and friends, I think that is a little harsh. What she did was actually responsible–she may have thought they would drink another way and possibly cause something bad to happen. She was trying to have these kids under her supervision so she can prevent the bad from happening.
When you compare that to the fact that in some states you can by a gun at 18, which is more dangerous? A mother supervising drinking kids, or some person buying a gun (without a proper background check) and killing someone.
Some may argue that we have the right to bear arms as it says in the consitution. That’s right. And the consitution exists to protect people. That being said, if someone goes and buys a weapon in his boundary of rights, why can’t two people of different ages be together without question. Some relationships like them are manipulative on one part, but if parents do their job, they will raise children to be emotionally intelligent and know who to be close to.
