What’s an affective way to discipline my son?

My soon to be 15 year old son is out of control. He’s into drugs and alcohol. He uses inappropriate language in front of my 3 year old daughter. He’s very violent.. always throwing things, hitting me, and pushing me. I’m not sure what to do anymore. I’ve tried therapy, grounding him, and taking things away, but nothing is affective on him. I’m not sure about spanking him.. He’s a little big.
I’ve always been pretty strict with him, but now I have no idea what to do. Any advise?
No, my husband died about 2 years ago and I’ve never remarried. So, he doesn’t have any father figure in his life.

You could poison him. Or next time he goes to sleep, cut off one of his fingers and tell him that if he doesn’t straighten up, he’ll lose a finger each night until he does. Hope this helps!

If he were violent with me and/or my 3 year old daughter, I’d call the police on him. Where’s his father in all of this?

Your son needs a positive male influence in his life. Is there a Big Brother program in your area? A trusted adult male who can take your son under his wing? It seems that this violence and drugs/alcohol is a cry for help.

You know what you need to do? beat the shit outta him. You could try all that Dr.Phil, Jerry and Maury shows, therapy and all that bs but sometimes a kid needs a good beating. NOT BEAT HIM TOO A PULP THOUGH [thats not what i mean] but you know just show him tough love. Im sure every parent does it once in their life…. 14 years old is TOO young in my opinion to be doing drugs and alcohol. you need to discipline this kid. If all else fails i guess you could send him to military school.

Also, if he gets violent you have every right to call the police on him. You can even call the police on him if he is cursing. It is a form of harassment I believe and it is punishable. It may be very very difficult as his parent, but he needs to learn that there are serious consequences for his actions. He cannot act violently anymore and get away scott free. It will hopefully scare him enough that he will think twice next time.

Another option is to find a program near you that is like a boot camp. There is a program in our area called STAR. Kids get picked up a couple of hours before school everyday, and they run, run run. They do sit ups, push ups, and other exercise. They also have to wear black sweat suit uniforms to the program and to school where they are checked up on often by the instructors. It’s harsh and the instructors are harsh, but the kids learn a new level of respect and discipline. Maybe do some research to see if there is a program like this near you.

Girl we should talk. I was/am in your same situation. Only my boy doesn’t hit or push me. He does raise his hand to me though like threatening me. I’ve tried everything too, even put him in a behavioral/mental facility for 3 weeks. Nothing helped. So i decided to let him be. i decided I was going to stop fighting and arguing with him and I told him that when he is ready to accept my and my daughters love we would be waiting for him with open arms. he quickly said I do accept your love. I have tried to just show him love whenever I can and be there when he needs me. Well we moved backed to our home state and things are a little better. but he still doesn’t listen to me or do his homework and i have a gut feeling he steals and does drugs but I can’t prove it. He has also taken my prescription pain pills and sold them to his friends. I am this close to buying a drug test but he has gotten better with his anger and violence. Its pretty much gone. This time I told him if his grades did not improve I was going to send him to the LA PD gang prevention and intervention program. It’s not only for potential gang members it’s for any kid that is out of control. If I had the money I would send him to a boarding school. We will see what happens in these next few months.

I think maybe if possible you can step back a little give him some space, most kids at that age are pretty bad, with all the hormones and finding themselves and everything. I would say just make sure he knows how much you love him and pray for the best. i know its hard but don’t give up.

Another thing does he have any male/father figures in his life? That is a big thing too. My son never really had a male to show him love and caring. My husband (not his father) for some reason never knew how to show him he cared about him or never spent time with him as father/son. That’s part of the reason why we separated now.

oh and I have called the police on my son that is how he got to the mental facility.

I agree with trying corporal punishment. If he is too big to put over your lap, get a sturdy paddle and have him bend over with his hands on his knees. Paddle his butt. 10 – 15 stingers should get your point across. Ground him until he accepts the paddling. No friends, phone usage, computer, music, or TV while he’s grounded. Paddle him in private and have him drop his pants for the serious infractions. Always hug him and let him know that you still love him when it’s over. It’s his behavior that you don’t want. Not him.
