What would you do if your 16 yr old son’s friend broke into your house, but said he was just leaving a note.

If you came home to find no one else home, but your 16yr old son’s friend rummaging thru the kitchen drawer’s. When you walk in and ask what he is doing he says he is looking for some paper and a pen to leave your son a note. But you notice on the counter next to him is a lock pick and some of YOUR jewelry, pluse he reaks of pot and alcohol. When you ask him to leave he does, but what would you do afterwards? Do you tell your son, call the cops, tell his parents or something else, or even do you do nothing?

If that was my sons friend I would do both. I would call the cops and tell his parents. The next time this kid couls steal your car, or God forbid break in when you and your family are at home asleep. I would diffenitally take action.

Call his MOM NOW!!! give her the opportunity to take care of the matter ..mention the smells and the lock pick/jewelry tell her you do not want to cause a rift between the kids but this is not acceptable and if it happens again you will call the police. She will appreciate the fact that you gave her the chance to deal with it first but make PREFECTLY clear there better not be a next time. If you do nothing then the kid will see no consciences for his actions and might do it again.

first of all i would call the police and then i would let the parent of the 16yr old boy know that way they can let there son know that not the right thing to do. then i would let my son know cause he need to know that his friend broke into the house.

Press charges NOW!! That little punk needs to learn a good lesson and apparently parents are not around to teach him one. I would also ban my son from ever speaking to him ever again.

I would call the cops to report it. It is defiantly an offense. Then I would call his parents to have him come and picked up. There’s no way he would leave my house under his own power. That just means he’s going to the next house to do the same thing.

Then I would change the locks on my house because obviously those weren’t good enough. Get a deadbolt lock.

And I would turn over his lock pick kit to the police. Those are illegal for anyone other than law enforcement or locksmiths to have anyway.

The answer is simple. If it was anyone else but the friend of your son you would have called the cops without question. If the boy had the nerve to break into the home of his friend and attempt to rob it, then he is obviously not a friend. I hate to see people go to jail, but some people deserve it.

First I’d ask why the jewelry is there if he’s only leaving a note secondly I’d call his parents and the cops and then tell my kids they are not allowed to hang out with that kid anymore or atleast not allow the kid in the house and I’d take the lock pick and have my locks changed since most picks mess up a lock if not done by a pro

I’d change the locks and get a separate dead bolt immediately. Then I’d call his parents and tell them what happened, and tell my son what happened and that I’d rather he didn’t hang out with this kid. If it happens again, definately call the cops.

Tell your son, then call the cops. The cops will tell the parents. If you let this slide he will do it again. if you tell the parents before you call the cops they will probably ask you not to call the police. your son should not be hanging out with a person like that. If that boy gets busted with drugs and your son is with him he will go down with him no matter if he does the drugs are not. Having a friend like that is like having your worst enemy with you with a knife in your back.

You should have left everything as it was, called the cops…and had them take fingerprints. Most likely they already have this kids on file…I’de almost garuntee it. He will most likey try again but maybe not your house…but possibly yes your house. If it hasn’t been long you might still file a report…call the police building..not 911 but their office….tell them what happened and ask what you should do. This is pretty serious btw. Also go door to door (with some picture of the kid…year book perhaps) and tell your neighboors what happened and give his description. If he did your house he’ll do his other “friends” house too.

Yes tell your son, and your spouse (if you aren’t married and don’t have a sig. other then some other person capable of kicking serious arse), try to find out how he got in and make is so he can’t. Window locks…attic window…ALWAYS lock up now..make sure all possible entrances are innaccesable…even your sons window…of course you can’t make it so your son can’t open it cause in case of a fire he couldn’t get out.

You WILL have to check EVERY acces point EVERY time you leave now. I’m sorry you must now worry about breaking and entering but when it happens once it can happen again.

If you know this kids folks…let them know…and that the police know too…but make sure the police ACTUALLY know…if you’re lucky there may be a case involved using you as a witness

Also look into breaking and entering laws of your state and the use of firearms as a defense…I’m not saying you should prepare to shoot…but some kid…drunk…on drugs…knowing your rights wouldn’t be a bad idea…better to be safe than sorry I say

Lord have mercy! Do all three! If someone doesn’t stop this boy now he will continue doing this behavior! He needs to be set on the right path now. Your son may get upset but surely he doesn’t need friends like that who break into his own home to steal from his own parents! Don’t blow it off. next time could be worse.

i would leave the stuff as it is and call the cops, he could end up donig it again to you or someone else and call the parents as well!

Hmm, I would probably bring the matter up with his parents and see how they plan to address it. If you are not satisfied, you could file a police report so that you have a record of it in case he tries again.

Scary!

I don’t know if I’d want my kid involved with someone like this. It does not sound like a good situation. You should probably talk with your son about this.
