A son was doing crack and there was a warrant out for his arrest. As soon as the mother found out the guy was dealing and smoking crack, she phoned in the warrant to the sheriff’s department to have him picked up. What is your opinion on this?????

The mother must believe in doing the right thing. I think she did the right thing. I mean, your child should learn that if they are going to do the crime, they are doing the time. It’s not every mothers dream to send her son/daughter to jail… but, she had to do it.

I’d say she did the right thing. Maybe nothing else was working, so she did it. I’m sure it was hard to do, but it will definitely be an eye opener for the son. And when he gets out, he will have a whole new outlook. I know I have a lot more respect for her than I have for the moms who hire an attorney to get the kid off on a technicality.

It took a lot of guts for her to do this, but her son was doing and deal crack he need to be arrested. I think that it is fine that she did this, she know he was doing something wrong and maybe now he can be punished for it and then get some help and not do it any more.

What kind of mom would call the cops on her own kid?
A desperate mother who is trying to save her son from his own addiction, his life of crime, and the fact that his consequences could quickly escalate from a small penalty to a huge one if he does something stupid.
A mother who knows her son could get killed or kill someone else eventually, and then would be facing something alot worse if she doesn’t act.
A mother who loves her kid and follows her heart and her convictions.
An honest mom who stands up for what she believes.
A mom who refuses to enable her sons bad choices and refuses to sit by watching him destroy himself.
A darn good mom, that’s what kind of mother who would do that.
It is called tough love.

In my opinion she would be a very good mother. Some people try to get their children out of trouble. This action usually ends by the child being a repeat offender. He now has a chance. Whether he will want to straighten up is another story. At least he has the opportunity.

I think she’s a wonderful mother. I would probably do the same thing. It’s known as “tough love”. Have you not heard of that? What kind of mother would sit back or play mah jongg upon hearing such a thing about her son? In my opinion, she wouldn’t be much of a mother if she were complacent about her child doing crack and dealing. I would let the little bastard sit it out in jail too, if it were me. Well, you asked.

I feel good about it. Not only is a drung dealer off the streets but the mother must have had good reason to do this.
It could be that she wanted to get him help but he refused….it could also be that she felt that if he was turned in now he would get a lighter sentence or prevent him from turning up dead.

Wow, not enough of the whole story for so many confidant assessments.
Hm..did she have to work two jobs to pay the bills so the kid had no parental guidance? If so, it is a sad situation, and state of affairs in our society.If not, she is not such a great mom or the kid would not have ended up in that situation in the first place.
If my child ever ends up on drugs, it will be my fault and no one else’s, because I did not lay the foundation for her to have strong self worth and a good sense of how important it is to make good decisions that will enhance her life and not destroy it.
I am a struggling single mom, making certain sacrifices to provide my daughter with as much love and validation as I possibly can because it is my number one obligation as a parent. I have one pair of jeans and wear my shoes until they fall apart, but my kid is healthy happy and lacking for nothing, especially love and encouragement.It really blows my mind when people blame kids, what ever happened to the parents obligation to provide them with the skills to thrive???
I really don’t mean to come off so high on my horse, I am not perfect and make mistakes, but, this kind of thing just breaks my heart. This world is a freaking mess!

It may have been her last resort at trying to save her son. I’m sure it wasn’t the easiest decision to make but it must have been needed to get her son the help he is going to need to straighten up his life. I’m sure she did it for his own good. I applaud her for having the strength to do what she did and I wish her and her son all the best and hope that her son will see that what she did was out of love. Tough Love, it’s not easy and hopefully it will work out for them both.

a very loving mother!!! lets say that your son went to grocery store, took out a gun, and killed people. that is a massive cry for help, and trust me, if your son did some thing like that, you’d want to get him help too! besides, NO BODY is above the law, family or not.

1- The kid would probably get help, such as rehab, that she may not be able to force him to go to.

I think the answerer that blames the mom for poor parenting fails to realize that sometimes, no matter how hard you push values onto a person (even a child), they will have their own ideas and their own ways of doing things… illegal or not. If I had my family’s values, then I would be a bigot. But I’m not, b/c I can think for myself and I have free will. I do admit that a lot of people are bad parents nowadays, but it’s not always the case.
Congrats to the mom for doing what’s best for everybody.

Dear Upset,
This is a situation that rips your heart to pieces. I know because I have been there, but not with drugs, it was a different situation, and a younger son. Mom did/should do/ the right thing. Maybe this situation prevents the problem from escalating. Crack is a horrid horrid thing. I have seen it rip families limb from limb, it kills people in the sense that they no longer are who they once were before. Please know that prevention is best, and stopping it once it starts can be a long string of relapses, whoever you are referring to needs to be persistant, and needs to decide now not to stop loving the user. Breaking that addiction is a difficult one.
