First off, his father is not allowed in his life – this is by order of CPS and the court system. His father has a serious meth problem and exposed him to god knows what when he was around him. He is also an only child and is very very spoiled material-wise by myself and my family. Lately, he has had a very bad temper when I don’t give him his way. He threatens to kill me with various weapons, hurts himself or takes a toy of his and destroys it. Today, I took him to the movies, the park, then he got to play with his friends for 2 hours, when I told him it was time to go he threw the biggest tantrum. I put him in time out when we got home and he urinated on the floor in his bedroom and on a stuffed animal. I don’t know what to do.

sounds like oppositional defiant disorder or something. you should see a therapist or a social worker or something maybe.

you need to get him help while he’s only five. Take him too a doctor. He’s beyond friendly strangers giving advice, you need professional help. The fact the he purposfully urinated all over the place is a BIG RED FLAG. And if you dont get help soon, he may get lost in this anger or illness that’s happening to him

If you constantly spoil him, he’s not going to learn how to handle it when he doesn’t get something he wants, like to play with his friends forever. You need to start disciplining and moderating more so he can learn that life is not all about him, all the time.

He sounds spoiled. But don’t feel bad he is just responding to what you have taught him so far…Give him responsibility, consistency, consequences, and love. He wants you to be his mom and all children want rules. It makes them feel cared for and safe. Right now, he is the boss and wishes he had structure. God bless!

THERAPY! now. this is not the usual tantrum from being spoiled. hurting himself and urinating on toys especially are worrisome. the most loving and kind thing you can do for him is get him professional help now, before the teens years set in. don’t be scared, don’t feel guilty. just help him. if you don’t like the therapist, try another. honest.

Well, stop doing so much for him, that sounds like a recipe for stimulation overload – pick ONE thing to do on the weekend, no more and let him pick what one out of say two or three choices. As for urinating in his room, it was not likely on purpose but that he forgot to use the restroom – make him clean up the urine, his clothes and the toy. As for the violent talk, a) he’s hearing it somewhere (television, family members, movies, etc…) so cut out the examples in his life and b) it gets a rise out of you so ignore the talk when he speaks that way, or send him to his room for a little bit to calm down. As for his father not being around, that’s true for a lot of people, it’s not a terrible thing (what if the dude was dead? At least with meth there is a chance in 5 years he’ll be reformed and ready to be a father), so don’t act like it’s a big deal, it’s not as big a deal as many things – and he has no idea it should be different.

i kno this might not be the answer you are lookin for but kids need the belt, i never liked it when i was younger but it does teach kids to behave and yea i agree u shouldnt scare your kids into respecting you but it sounds like your little boy is asking for it and im not tellin you to beat him senseless just enough so that he knows YOU not him is the authority figure.

I think you need to take him to a counsellor. No child just makes up threatening to kill you with weapons or urinates on their own toys. He may have been exposed to things that have had lasting impacts on him. He will only get stronger as he gets older and the threats more violent. It’s best to deal with this while he is young, He may have some mental health issues such as personality disorder…where the struggle to mature from the point of a traumatic experience or he may have mild autism where he is unable to experience empathy, which could explain alot. I would take him to a doctor and see what the doctor thinks. You must explain that he is being threatening. Also talk to him when he is calm. Ask him if anything is bothering him or ask him about things that he used to do with his dad. Ask hm why he gets so mad and tell him that you are worried about him…he may seem too young for this but kids are very able to handle things. Try being gentle with him by telling him that you love him and such. Give him more hugs if you can when he is calm. But definately seek professional help!

Tell him it is unacceptable,no matter what he may have seen on TV,and that you will not tolerate his temper tantrums towards you..he can keep on destroying the toys..they are not relevant.

I knew of a child acting exactly like that at that age. His parents put him in therapy, and it seemed to help. But he too was exposed to things that shouldn’t have been by a parent when younger. I would say therapy is your best bet.

Maybe he got that attitude from his dad. Or maybe he’s sad because he can’t see him any more. I’m not saying he should be able to see him though, since he’s on meth. But I’m saying you should get your son counseling or something to help him through whatever problems he’s dealing with in his head.
