My son came home last night seemingly normal, but when I walked past him in the kitchen I could smell alcohol on his breath. After realizing that he was drinking the signs became a little more obvious and I realized he must be slightly drunk still. I know for a fact that he has never drunk before and I don’t want to be too strict but I still want to punish him some how. What do you recommend a good punishment is?

no punishment speaking from an underage drinker then if you punish him ,wen the punishments over then he’s just going to do it again .just tell him you would rather him not drinking and show him what could happen when under the influence of drink or even suggest that he drinks under your super vision then you know what he’s getting up to . my good old dad, as soon as he knew my brothers even had a bit of booze in them started talking louder, jarring them, shaking them ect. but acting like he did not know they were drinking, then on propose kept them up as late as he could which made their hangover worse and them sicker. then the next day when they sober up a bit, he asked them how they felt, then told them he knew, and the next time they would spend time in the drunk tank at the police station, my older brother drank, and did, dad took him to the station they stuck in in a cell with the worse drunk they had that night, after that either brother never came home drunk

how old is he? did he drive himself home that night? is he for the most part a good kid and student? obviously he wasn’t drunk out of his mind soo that’s good…*add details for finding a proper punishment.*
I’d say a good talking too is best if you have a reasonable son. Tell him you don’t want him drinking often and especially no drinking and driving. Be calm and just talk with him, ask how often/much do you drink. Are you at a safe location. Which of your friends do you drink with?And I’m pretty sure there is no way of stopping him now that he’s started… Just make sure he is responsible about his drinking.
as far as a “punishment” perhaps you can use the next weekend for a mother son time … if you can think of a way to make a fun weekend for you two so you can bond more and get him in the mindset that you are open for him to go too. And tell him that you expect him to be respect you and his own life.
Just be sure not to act crazy and make unreasonable boundaries because he will most likely be resentful and angry and go behind your back and begin to rebelif this all sounds too easy on him it’s because I’m a 20 year old girl with no kids of my own.
But as a younger person I think I have a perspective that will get you results.
