What in the world is a ‘God-hater’?

Fellow atheists, help me out here! Is a ‘God-hater’ a person who believes in God but hates him like say, a teenage son hates his abusive alcoholic dad? …Or something?

We know one thing for sure, we atheists definitely couldn’t be classified as ‘God-haters’ since we don’t believe in God and you can’t hate what you don’t believe in, right? Yup. Certainly they aren’t referring to US when they say ‘God-hater’, right?

My first thought was to say that people are referring to atheists when they use that term.

However, it would be someone who believes that God is responsible for their suffering or someone else’s or has done something else deserving of hatred.

Yes, atheists do hate God. e.g. Richard Dawkins, in his book “The God Delusion”. And so does Christopher Hutchens in his book “God is not great”.

Why would someone refer to God in hateful terms, if they consider themselves atheists?
