I don’t think there’s a law against it but you never know until you check, it really depends on how much this has damaged your child and your relationship. Slander? Maybe. Check with a lawyer it’s the only way you will know in your specific case.

You need to keep your daughter away from your controlling mother. AA is a religious cult and is a dangerous one. If you decide you have a problem and start going to AA on your own then fine but no one should take your child to any religious meetings without your approval.

People will claim AA is not a religion and that it is a spiritual program not religious, but do research and you find that a few of our higher courts have declared it to at least be religious in nature.

Here is what AA teaches in a nutshell and you decide if it is religious cult or not.
They teach you are powerless, that alcohlism is a spiritual malady, or disease that only a higher power can help with. This higher power is later encouraged to be called god. This god cannnot heal you but only give you a daily reprieve so therefore you are locked into AA meetings for the rest of your life.

They teach that if you do not work this program you will die drunk. They encourage their members to have limited contact with non members. They demonize those of us who dare to say anything bad about their spiritual program and we are discredited.

The few short months I was in AA I did see people turn children against parents that were still drinking and refused to get with the simple spiritual AA program. Read the steps and you find you must declare yourself powerless and you must submit to god’s will or die.

AA is all about spreading their spiritual message and not about actually helping the alcoholic.

If you have a problem I suggest you just stop drinking especially since your mother is very controlling becauase she could eventually turn your daughter against you by her influence and the influence of AA members.

I never attended an alanon meeting because that is for family members of alcoholics and is probably what your mother is taking her to. But it is still AA and they still teach your daughter that she is powerless and must work the steps.

Talk to your daughter and find out if she is being told to work the steps, if she is told she is powerless and need god to help her.

I fear for your relationship with your daughter as I had very controlling parents and I did see the warning signs but did not want to keep my children away from their grand parents because I wanted them to see their grand parents. Long story short My parents eventually turned my children against me took me to court told lies had other people to lie and I have not seen my children or parents in 12 years. My children are now adults 28 and 25 I do not even know if they are married and have kids of their own.

Controlling people will use any means available to them and if your drinking can be used against you in short, I strongly suggest you just stop. You can start again after she is grown.

My parents did not use AA but did attend a very controversail church that was cult like and did not mind telling the courts their opinions even though they did not really know me. I was demonized.

Every little thing you do that can be considered wrong parenting or anything that can be used against you will be used by your mother if she decides to take your daughter away from you. I do not know about your state or how old your daughter is but what my parents used here in Texas is a law that a child when they turn 13 they can decide for themselves who they want to live with and it sounds like your mother may be setting you up as I was set up.

So I said all that so you will know maybe you need to back off the drink for a while or else find yourself in court fighting for custody of your daughter. First keep her away from your mother.
