Advice on warning kids to stay away from drugs, alcohol, etc.?

My son is 14 and he is a very good boy, but I worry because I know how young I was when temptations started. (to smoke pot, drink, etc.) He has ADD and things aren’t always a breeze for him, so I am afraid he will turn to drugs at some point. I tell him often (without nagging) to wait until he is 21 to decide whether or not to drink and he seems to listen. I heard that alcohol affects the development of the frontal lobe of the brain, so I remind him from time to time that he is just so much better off without it. I also don’t want to seem like I am preaching. I am a waitress and I have tended bar, so he knows I am not anti-alcohol. I just want him to make age-appropriate decisions. If anyone has any added incentive for kids to stay abstinate, please let me know. Thanks!

Started dating this guy in high school, we both moved when i went to college. everything was great. 2 1/2 years into it i find out he’s been cheating since the beginning. keep in mind he also has a felony record, drug and alcohol problems, and is a chronic liar. ever since i got pregnant, he’s been faithful and tried to change the rest. we have again moved, and he’s holding a good job, off drugs, and doing well with the alcohol. He’s a great dad, when he wants or has to be. but otherwise, he’s pretty selfish and childish. the more time i spend thinking about leaving the less hard it seems. i really do want to salvage the relationship for my son, but i know that getting into a bad marriage is worse than no marriage at all. i’m really sick and tired of being his mom too. he’s never lived on his own and can’t take care of his own bills and needs, how can i expect him to take care of me and our son? not much time to decide!!! stay and get married, or leave and be a single mom. i know i can

married 12 yrs. had a difficult yrs.but loved my son more than anybodyelse. he wants to be with his dad.my financial is not really secure. had few debts. But my hubby is alcoholic,illegal smoker. and he is lost affection, attention,appreciation towards me.

How do you get suction cups to stay stuck?

My son has a bath net to hold his toys in and it is connected to two cute sea animals with suction cups behind them. I cannot get the suction cups to stick, it keeps falling. I have tried cleaning the tile with alcohol and let dry before using.

Would you stay with your husband/parent of your child if he was an alcoholic?

A drinking alcoholic, not going to AA, and it has affected the children already… the 8 year old son doesn’t even like to go to restaurants that have bars, refers to people in movies as drunk (like if the character can’t remember something or acts strange), etc. The 12 year old girl says she doesn’t even want to get married and will never drink alcohol…these are just a couple of examples, but it is clear that these kids have been permanently affected. The dad “falls off the wagon” every few months and spends lots of the family’s money and sometimes doesn’t come home…or comes home and the family has to flee so that he won’t act crazy around the kids.

Would you look at it like, “the damage is already done” or “I need to prevent further damage” or what?

If you feel that the wife/mother in the situation should leave, but hasn’t, how if at all would you try to encourage her?
This is about my sister’s family and it breaks my heart. Her kids were two of the happiest people I’ve ever seen and they are being hurt by his actions.
She has been going to al-anon for years, even after he dropped out of AA, but she hasn’t been going as consistently the last year or so.
Oops–I forgot my niece just turned 13… and she is interested in boys and has chosen a guy her mom totally doesn’t approve of who her mom describes as “having issues.”
