I stay with an 83 yr old woman who is crippled up, doesn’t drink or do any drugs, has never been in any kind of trouble in her entire life and the city just sent a notice to pay a fine for giving a minor alcohol even though no police ever came to her door and no children have been in her house since her own 60 yr old kids left home.
If she is arrested as it says she will be if she doesn’t pay the fine can she sue the city? She said she plans to let them arrest her just to sue the city on grounds of false arrest. Can she do that?
It has to be a clerical error on someones part, but before the city starts locking people up shouldn’t they at least send an officer to investigate? I would think so anyway.
I don’t drink either and have not given alcohol to any kid and never have except my own son who was 17 at the time in my own house. He’s now 26 so that’s not it either.
She hasn’t given any alcohol to any kid anywhere. She did give me a sip of brandy once, but I’m 49 yrs old, clearly old enough.
We have no idea who accused her, what the fine might be and there is no set court appearance date, just a paper saying to pay an undetermined fine as though she has already been found guilty without any kind of trial, investigation or anything.

My 16 year old son left school campus for lunch. During that time he took a shot of Jack Daniels with a friend and then returned to school. While talking with a teacher, she smelled the alcohol. The school priciple was notified who in turn called the police to breathalyse my son. To sum it up, my son now is facing an expulsion. What are his rights?

Had a bartender buddy tell me a cute story about how he made a virgin martini for a patron’s ambitious son. It started with a dash of bitters to seem like vermouth, and gave way to simple syrup and tonic. The bitters being the only possible source of alcohol.

The father was pleased– but was this a legal thing to do? Seems harmless enough.

Does anyone know what the penalty is for contributing to a minor in Texas? My step daughter’s mother has been buying alcohol for her son and his friends. They have been bragging that she let them get drunk every day this past week. There are beer bottles, boxes and cans all over their yard. What a mother!!!
BTW we are going through a custody battle with her !

My son is 17 and Missouri law prohibits those under 21 to handle alcohol. My son works for a 91M locally owned company & the warehouse guys drink either on the job (management) or after hours on the company property. One of my son’s “requirements” is to keep ice on the bosses beer. I found out today, that the boss has been treating my son similar to a slave making him retrieve his beers for him, making him refill his beer cooler and the boss throwing his beer cans at my son when he’s done making my son pick them up and throw them away. This is unlawful practice but the boss has been there for 20+ years and keeps the beer cooler hidden from upper management in a store room under a deadbolt and pad lock…the boss continually threatens my son and nephew (16), who also works there, if they don’t do what he tells them to do he says he will fire them. They love their job but really can’t stand this alcoholic he really treats them more like slaves – continually screaming at them/disrespectfu

Hi!

My 18 year old son just stayed at a hotel, which has a minibar in all rooms (of course, featuring alcohol). The hotel did not check for ID as it should have?

What can be done? Can we bring any type of charges on them? Providing alcohol to a minor?
IIllinois residents, while hotel is in Missouri.
Hotel did not check ID, sure of that. The Credit Card they did take :)

The manager is being rude, so I want to know if there are actual legal issues with what they did.

They did not get the alcohol at my sons house and were outside but the police officer told him to call in the next 10 days to find out what to do. The officer never went in the house, the girls denied getting it from our son, and never gave him a ticket or any paperwork or phone number to call. Are there grounds to go after him?

I have a very controlling mother who has had a lifelong agenda of finding fault with me as a son and a single father of 12+ years now. Most recently I discovered that my mother had taken my 12 year old daughter to AA meetings, because “she needed to accept the fact that her father is an alcoholic”. I am not, nor ever been, and my daughter was taken to several of these meetings w/out my knowledge or permission. Is this legal to do w/out obtaining consent?
