This is gonna seem weird. But I’ve been dreaming of the Air Force all my life. Middle school I was top student with high grades and athletic ability. However, being the son of a single alcoholic father (with short tempers) I glided off the path I worked to hard to build. It took the whole 8th grade (when it started) and after I moved (freshman year) to recover. Even now I struggle a little bit thought my grades are getting better along with my determination. My question is this: Is it too late to be able to qualify for the Air Force Academy? I’ve gained weight since middle school and I really don’t have anything impressive to give. But I figure once I get on my feet I can handle it and I think I’m ready to take on leadership. But next year being JUNIOR year, am I too late?

So last night my wife and I got into a screaming fight about my drinking. The details are kind of fuzzy, but evidently I got completely wrecked and grain alcohol and prescription painkillers and ended up vomiting on our infant son while he slept in his crib. Anyway, she totally freaked out and went to go stay with a coworker. I’ve left her dozens of voice mails but she’s not returning my calls. I know that I kind of messed up, but I think she is majorly overreacting. How can I force her to come home?

This is a sad situation, because I’m talking about my son. He is an alcoholic by every means of the word. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is alcohol. He is in and out of jail constantly, but never for the drinking. He has blackouts, and doesn’t remember the things he’s done. He urinates, and drinks in public. He passes out in public. He can’t keep a place to stay, or a job. I have talked to him until I am blue in the face. He won’t stop drinking. Frankly, I don’t think he can. I’m afraid I will be going to his funeral in less than two years. He has been drinking heavily for 5 years. He is 31 years old. His mom and I are divorced. They both live in Charlotte, NC. Is there something we can do to maybe get a judge to order him to get help? Are there any sources in Charlotte that we might look into? I think he is unreachable at this point. He doesn’t care. He is slowing dying, and I tell him this often. I also let him know that I love him. Isn’t there any laws to protect someone from themselves?
