When my husband of 6 years gets a “buzz”, he is verbally abusive to me and my son.(from a previous relationship) When he’s sober and I tell him what he said or did he calls me a liar and denies it all. I have left him many times but I keep coming back. He has started AA classes and soon as he realizes I’m back, he stops AA and starts drinking again. I love him but this is causing me to really dis-like him. I am not attracted to him anymore because of this reason. When we lay down together all I smell is beer and his eyes are glossy. I need advice on what to do. I don’t want to turn my back on him, we have 2 children together and i have one from a previous relationship who looks up to my husband as his daddy. I don’t want them to think it’s o.k to drink a case of beer a day.(and still walk a straight line)

My friend is in her late 20′s she has 3 dui’s she has a parole violation. She is a bad person who only cares about her self. She has a major drinking problem too, her brother died from a drunk driver. She is currently dating a man who is pushing 40. He used to be an alcoholic he stoppted because he doesn’t want to lose his 10 year old son.

He is good and clean now he hates drinking and alcohol. My friend drinks behind his back. Because she is bored and she says needs to be bad once and a while. They live together the last time she got drunk. He told if she does it again it’s over. She said she won’t do it again but she has hit the bottle four times since then. She quit her job and is looking for a new one. So far she hasn’t been looking she just sitting around the house getting bored and wanting to drink. I told her to stop because he is a nice man. He is letting her live with him for free and he takes her out and everything. After all this she still drinks behind his back.

My son is 24 years old and just graduated from university this summer. He has been living with me and the family for the summer while he gets ready to move to Europe. Since my ex husband was an alcoholic, my son eventually grew up to hate alcohol of any type and refuse to touch them. But it was never really bad until he came back home this summer.

We learned that he greatly looks down upon anyone who drinks. It get so bad that it got to point where my daughter once brought a case of beer home for her boyfriend, my son suddenly stop talking with her boyfriend and call him a low life and white trash and have threaten to hurt him a couple time. This was very scary since my son was a division 1 wrestler and is generally a rather shy and very humble so it was unusual. We can also see he lose so much respect for his sister. He has even gone as far as refusing to shake anyone hand if they’re known to be a drinker. He also has punched his own father just because he tried to get my son to go to bar with him.

Odd thing is, he had a couple friends from Europe coming over this summer and he has absolutely no problem with them drinking or going to bar with them at all. When I asked him about this, he say Americans who drink alcohol are a low life white trash who just want to get drunk and worship alcohol while Europeans just treat it like any other drinks and don’t act like a idiot about it.

This is making me very uneasy and it is hurting me that he’s like this. I can’t even enjoy a glass of wine without him giving me a dirty look and it is just ruining his relationship with his father, sister, and her boyfriend. Once he saw me drinking a bottle of corona with Mexican food and he was like “what are you doing” I tried to explain him I enjoy beer with Mexican food, he was like “you’re being an idiot” which hurt me. I’ve even caught him pouring out a bit amount of wine or any alcohol around house a bit at a time and warned him he’ll not be able to live here if I caught him doing that again. I and my husband aren’t a big drinker, we may drink only a glass or so once every month or so. My daughter’s boyfriend like to drink but he’s not an alcohol, he just like to have a couple beer after work or so. Yet my son cannot respect this at all. Then he turns around and has absolutely no problem with his European friends drinking beer.

Why is he like this? What can I do to fix this problem before he move? I don’t want him to leave on a bad term.

I am going to send my 23 year old to the liquor store for drinks for Thanksgiving.
I know I need beer for my son-in-law.
But I was wanting something for those who so not like beer.
We are not drinkers, I just thought it would be nice to have something special.
I have no ideas what there is or what the stuff costs.
Can someone please help me?

Every night he’s home, my husband has what he refers to as a “few” drinks (a couple of mixed drinks and a few beers). Last night I asked him if he would not drink so much and he agreed. When he went outside to walk our dog, I saw he was drinking a beer. When asked why he did after saying he wouldn’t his answer was “I wanted to” I felt as if I’d been lied to and think he may have a serious drinking problem. He’s a great provider, is wonderful to my family (mother, son, grandchildren), gives me anything I want and is obvious in his love for me. He doesn’t understand why his drinming is an issue with me, but I’ve never known anyone who drinks every day and consideres a six pack and a couple of shots “a couple of drinks.”

I just had my 3rd son 14 wks. ago. I have been doing exceptionally well with my fitness program. I’m 5 lbs. away from my pre-pregnancy weight. My husband and I are going on a week-long vacation (by ourselves) and I really don’t want to blow all of the progress I have made. Any suggestions for “somewhat” low-fat alcoholic drinks? Also, what about healthy meals?

My husband quit drinking for over 9 years and has started drinking again for the past few months. He has been laid off and after being bored for some time went back to drinking. Basically, the economy is what did him in. I hate when he drinks and he knows that but he does it anyways. What should I do? I can’t take it when he drinks as he is a total idiot when he’s drunk! Not to mention my 2 teenage sons seeing him like that.

and is often verbally abusive. We have a 4 month old son together. Things just keep getting worse and worse. He has been beaten up quite badly on 2 of his most recent binges. It’s hard for me to see him so hurt like this. He tells me he will quit drinking and then lies about going out to party with his friends. After one of his binges I will kick him out and he goes to stay with friends and then he will start calling and saying he misses me and wants to come home. It’s hard for me to say no, but every time he comes back nothing ever changes. He refuses to go to rehab or to couples counselling with me. How do I move on without making it seem like I’m abandoning him? I want him to know that I will be here for him but can no longer live this way??

This is long.. please bear with me….
My best friend since I’ve know her drinks alcohol constantly. It used to be 5-7bottles of beer every evening. She had weight loss surgery, and slimmed way down. she was told she was to have no alcohol whatsoever. She fought the urge to not drink and beat it. 7 months into the year, at a meeting a few people asked if they could drink and the answer was NO. after the meeting a few other people said they have been drinking hard liquor which had much less to nearly no calories. my friend started experimenting with hard liquor and got rehooked quickly. she is now into 1 bottle of wine per night. Weekends, sometimes 2 bottles. She also smokes very heavily during the day as well.
I have known her for 14 years. since she has lost her weight, she started going out to bars and lounges and has met an incredible amount of new people of whom she sees as her extended family. these people are constantly drinking and every picture I see with them in it is usually in a bar. They go out to the lake and camping and it’s just a drinking frenzy.
My friend says she is a social drinker and it’s not a problem as she swears she doesn’t drive when she drinks, I know she has and her car is proof.
When she drank beer you’d never know she was drinking. She could walk a straight line in high heels. with the wine, I’ve noticed she doesn’t have that ability. If she isn’t at the bars, her house has 3-4 people of which bring some sort of booze.
I have tried to talk to my friend about her drinking and it becomes a huge verbal fight. At times when she’s sober and we talk, she’ll sometimes admit she needs to get her drinking under control and has admitted she’s an alcoholic, but refuses to do anything about it. I think she’s waiting for a pill or something to help her stop. she’s trying this pill to stop smoking but it isn’t working.

Several of us who know and love this lady want to help her. We have agreed that at least 1 of us at all times would accompany her to an AA type meeting for support and would be her support group.
We can’t do an intervention because her family drinks “socially” and constantly. Her brother brews his own beer because there’s nothing stronger that he can buy. Her family does not drink like my friend does, but she is always around alcohol of some sorts. her new found bar friends all drink, and I know she’s drinking more and more because of them, not to fit in, but probably because it’s there and “free flowing”.
Her skin used to be flawless, now she has wrinkles showing and her voice is choppy and sounds like she has phlem in her throat all the time. Her son who’s going to be 14 has asked her to stop drinking and he gets ignored as she says it’s only 1 glass. (it is.. that he sees).

I need advice on how I can help my friend. she’s a great person, and I only forsee things getting worse for her. I have been waiting for a chance to talk to her when she’s in that “vulnerable” state, but it hasn’t happened. and the times it has it’s very brief and I’m not able to get the dialogue started.
I have to find a place to go for an AA type meeting that will actually help.
She’s made several friends who were court ordered into a country AA type program. after they got out of the meeting they all went to the bars or went to her place & started drinking.
I’m afraid my friend will resort to this because she thinks she know the program and just has to follow the steps and she’ll do it when she’s ready.
I unfortunately have also been waiting for something severe to happen to where she has to face it. dents & scrapes on her car aren’t enough. she crashed into a curb & hit a small tree. she lied & said she avoided a dog. Well she got away with it. I don’t want anyone to get hurt, ever!
However something hard has to hit her that she has to face before I think she’ll have to acknowledge her actions.
I have ideas & plans.. but her silver tongue seems to always prevail.

Please.. any advice will help! Thank You.
