I believe my son has schizophrenia, and his symptoms get much much worse when he smokes weed or drinks alcohol, but he refuses to believe us when we tell him this and he refuses to stop and just lies about it. Lately he is getting more and more self destructive and I am very scared he will end up really hurt or worse. I feel so torn but I feel that having him committed is my only avenue as he will not get help on his own and I can not force him as he is 20 years old. Please tell me what I can do!

He is alcoholic and needs help but refuses to get help himself . Is there any kind of law where I can force or have him committed before he hurts himself or someone else?

I filed for an expedited hearing in Washington administrative courts. My son was denied enrollment in an alternative high school without benefit of an IEP meeting. The letter denied enrollment because of a perceived disability, ADD. The rules for expedited hearings say no continuances may be granted, the district was given continuances at every hearing by the Judge from Sept. to Feb.
At the same time I found out my ex was using meth and I filed for custody of my 3 kids. The district claimed I had made threats of phsical violence against district employees, and filed for intervenor status in the custody of my children. They submitted 3 letters aledging that I made these threats and their request was granted. At the trial the author of the letters admitted under oath that I had never made these threats. They felt treatened by my presense at the IEP meetings. The Courts have violated our rights to due process. I have been jailed for 4 days, cannot get a job, lawyers cost to much. HELP!!!
I am the father not the mother. My son was denied enrollment because of his perceived disability. That is why I filed the expidited hearing with the court. The district sided with the mother because she wanted all of the educational decision making power. The district felt theatened because I knew what my sons rights were and filed a complaint against them.

My husband sisters 21 year old son committed suicide. And I know it has to be so rough on her but Not real sure how to help. We have never been close. And I refuse to be like so many to tell her I know what she is going through. It feels so cruel. When I have my son he just turned 28 and is a wild man. Always has been. He son was one of the good guys. He was a high school graduate and not into drinking, drugs or any of that kind of stuff my son has done it all. The alcoholic, his 1st son when he was only 16. And has done the street drugs. But I hear so many people telling her they know what she is going through When they don’t because I feel until you have had to bury a child for any reason or lost a child to death you Can’t possialby know what they are going through. He son watched his father at 8 years old die at his feet. His father was a diabetic and had a kidney transplant. And only lived 2 years then died from a blood clot. This youg boy was standing beside of his daddy in the kitchen when he fell to his death. Our nephew was a brillte diabetic, At 16 he had open heart surgery. His heart had NO back in it they repaired it and done a bunch of other stuff to it. He found out 3 months ago his pancreas had quit, his kidneys were failing and they wanted to put him on a heart transplant list. He told his mother he was just tired of all his health problems and he gave up. He committed suicide and they buried him on his 22 B day. Here I am with a 28 year old son. Who know more cares about his family or his health. He goes through 2 cases of beer a week. Neglects his children. And only comes to see my husband and I when he wants a free babysitter, or money. But yet her son was acomputer wizard, had made it through high school, had tried college before his health got worse. And was a great kid. But I don’t know how to be there for her. When We have our son and our 3 grandchildren. And she lost hers.We have never been close in about 10 years anyway. She lives 90 mile away.

This is a sad situation, because I’m talking about my son. He is an alcoholic by every means of the word. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner is alcohol. He is in and out of jail constantly, but never for the drinking. He has blackouts, and doesn’t remember the things he’s done. He urinates, and drinks in public. He passes out in public. He can’t keep a place to stay, or a job. I have talked to him until I am blue in the face. He won’t stop drinking. Frankly, I don’t think he can. I’m afraid I will be going to his funeral in less than two years. He has been drinking heavily for 5 years. He is 31 years old. His mom and I are divorced. They both live in Charlotte, NC. Is there something we can do to maybe get a judge to order him to get help? Are there any sources in Charlotte that we might look into? I think he is unreachable at this point. He doesn’t care. He is slowing dying, and I tell him this often. I also let him know that I love him. Isn’t there any laws to protect someone from themselves?
