He has an alcohol addiction, which means he can go for months without drinking, and suddenly gets very drunk at an event. I have been showing him tough love, so really, that’s not my problem. I mean if he can’t accept it, what can i do? My problem is that i have a 17 year old boy who has had a drink or two when he goes out to party, but one day he’ll eventually will get drunk (we all have). How can i correct him or advice him, without putting his father as an example (He’s a great dad and deserves respect). won’t my son rub my husband’s addiction in my face? I almost never drink, by the way. Can’t find the fun in it.

My family had just moved here so we’re not familiar with the place yet. I just want to know how I can get information regarding addiction treatment centers within the area. My son is an alcoholic, and I had just recently convinced him to get himself treated. Any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

My son is addicted to alcohol. I think it’s best that he finally went to an addiction treatment center. I want to know how I can look for one.

I am a drug addict, and so is my husband, we have a 12 year old son I never used drugs or alcahol during pregnancy but never the less I believe children show signs of the “disease”at early ages and everyone wants to call it ADD and then give the child who is already more apt to use because of the hereditary factors, they want to give the child ridalin?? a narcotic?? Just what they need right I say wrong you may as well give the little hyper terd a big fat line of cocaine to start his day… I refuse to give that drug to my son…How many agree with any of this…Hyper kids just need more attention there is no magic pill that will fill a void only you as a parent can fill and ever met a kid that was on ridalin for years all through childhood?? I have and they have nowhere jobs and turned out “slow” that drug along with any controlled substance messes up the greatest minds of even adults, imagine what it does to a kids mind after time…If you dont want your kid burnt out …

He is addicted to meth and gets really crazy. He has ADHD too. He has guns. He’s had trouble with the law many times. I am worried about my two little grandchildren. My daughter keeps hoping he will just get better. She focuses more on him than the kids. We know he won’t get better any time soon. Should I make a report to a family services agency? The children have shown signs of abuse. CPS has already visited them. Would they do anything with this additional information, and would my daughter have the children taken away? I can’t just watch and wait while this damage is being done. What else can grandparents do?

Is there nothing worse than an alcoholic who gives up his alcohol addiction and takes on a Jesus addiction lecturing you about the evils of drinking that 12 ounce can of Miller Lite beer? In other words, a guy who couldn’t handle himself getting all preachy with you, someone who can?

Will fundies ever grasp the fact that many, many, many people get it right the first time without their precious imaginary god or son of god?

My brother in law is addicted to pills. It started out with Vicodin (not his) and now he has 3 separate doctors prescribing drugs to him without the knowledge of the others. He has wiped out their savings and got cash advances on secret credit cards for almost $15K in 6 months. He refuses to go to rehab because he thinks nothing is wrong with him. My sister asked him to leave a week ago and he is now staying with his parents. Before he left, he told my 5-year-old nephew that “your mom doesn’t want me to live here and I won’t get to see you anymore”. My nephew has been acting out and saying she is mean and if she loved him she would let his dad come home. My sister won’t let my nephew see his dad because he slurs, stumbles and is verbally abusive to anyone in the vicinity. She doesn’t want my nephew to know anything about what is going. I think she should explain that his dad is sick and can’t be around them right now. Any thoughts?

My son is active duty Army with 9 years service. He is divorcing his wife, due to her drug addiction and child neglect. She failed a court-ordered drug test 2 weeks ago by showing positve for cocaine, and there have been 2 complaints of child neglect made to Texas’s Children’s Protective Services. CPS is planning to take the children away from her and put them in foster care. How can he get a discharge so that he can care for his children, instead of them going into the foster care system. One child is special-needs infant with neurological issuse requiring visits to pedicatric neurologist. I am the grandmother but can’t care for them, due to my age and my medical issues (heart and circulatory problems)

I have been through many detox and substance abuse programs. My father was the southeasts largest supplier of cocaine in the 80`s and 90`s. I had him arrested thinking that if I could take away the ease of access I could take away my addiction. I only made my addiction more expensive as now I have to pay for the cocaine that I use. I have cut way back (from 1/2 ounce daily in 1990 to several grams a year). The problem is when I get started I can`t stop until I have no more money. THis causes a strain on my marriage (to my fourth wife) as I do not come home until I`m broke and hurting.
Please someone give me some advice, if you have ever seen the movie where johnny depp plays the drug kingpin, this was my life in the 80`s and 90`s, but not as the kingpin, but the son caught up in the game. We had police paid off, planes running dope from Mexico to USA. I saw corruption, racketeering, money laundering, even murder of DEA officials and witnesses for the state. This left me scarred foreve

My son’s father is a drug addict and I almost never allow him to see his father. One of my best friends is an alcoholic and I am trying to help her through it. They both act very similar and I’m wondering if there is any difference between being a drug addict and an alcoholic. Both can be violent and I don’t ever allow them around my son when they are high or drunk. It’s very hard not to distance myself from these people totally.
