My son just turned 40 and lives in SC his gf called me earlier and told me he is back on Crack after a few weeks clean. She is in need of help and with him not working they can’t afford a rehab center. He is not using a l but she would like him to get clean and stay clean. She in no way supports his habit he gets with friends and they buy it and all of them smoke it together. There are no minor children involved in this matter but i fear for my son’s life as well as his gf’s safety.

All I can say is that you need to try to get him to the rehab center. Help them afford it if he really needs it.

Unfortunately he has to want to stay clean, this is under his control nobody else’s. It’s hard to see someone you love exhibit self destructive behaviors but all you can do is tell him you are here for him and hope he makes the right choices.

You cannot go through rehab then return to the same environment with the same friends and expect to stay clean. The best thing they can do is move to a new area and start a fresh, clean life… he may not stay clean even then, but it is a small glimmer of hope.

Pay for him to go to Rehab, just make sure your money doesn’t goes to buying crack.

Wow that is tough especially that you want the help. I would call a hospital and ask where you can go. I am sure there is some kind of resource that will help you find a place to get clean especially for low income people. I would even go to a Pastor and talk to him.
When I got clean was through God. I asked God to help me and he sure did. I have been 20 years clean. Sometimes the person has to hit rock bottom to really want to stay off the drugs. I tried helping a old friend and it was impossible. They have to want to help themselves even though it is the hardest thing to do. I am very sorry you are going through this.

Tell her to kick him out. Sometimes the only way to help is to let the loved one hit bottom with a mouth full of dirt. If they can see how bad things get, well, they may just want to turn their lives around and they will seek help in any way possible, even going so far to sign themselves into a mental hospital.

That is so hard. I’m so sorry for your pain. I’ve been there with my daughter and many of her friends. After MANY years of struggling, she is finally free from the drugs, but there’s still so much healing to be done. I’m sending links of groups I found to be helpful. Hopefully, there is a site here that will help you. I pray for peace and resolution for you and for your son’s healing.

Unfortunately your son has put himself in a bad spot. He knows what he’s doing is wrong. But what you need to understand is that if he doesn’t want the help he isn’t going to get clean. His gf needs to get out of this relationship. I’m sure she loves and cares for him, but why put her needs last to a person who only cares about where he gets his next fix? If I were her, I would call the cops on him if I know he has crack on him or if he’s smoking that sh*t in my house. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink. Cliche but so true. I know families that have invested money in housing and rehabilitation centers only for their loved on to be back on the drugs. He needs to want the help for himself. There are a lot of places that don’t cost. Usually church affiliated but they can give him the help he needs. Remember….HE NEEDS TO WANT IT. It’s not enough that his loved ones want it for him.

Well I don’t know if my story relates, but my mom was with a boyfriend, he was 45, and he was perfectly normal for 3 years until he was injured on the job. He ended up home for 2 years and started using small doses of meth. She tried helping him, his family tried helping him, and in the end it was safer for my mom to leave him, he became violent, and after she left the police confiscated his 2 homes and he spent 300,000k making that crap. Now, he is 47 years old, got a girl pregnant, had the baby, and he’s on parol. He used to be a foreman electrician for boeing making 150k a year. What a waste.
If your son doesn’t listen to anyone then the only option left is for the girlfriend to move on, and for family to just keep in contact with him. Ultimately he is an adult and he will do what he wants. I wish you the best.
