i caught my 13 year old step son smoking weed (joint) in his room and i had a long talk with him about weed and how its not bad like tobacco and alcohol but i told him to wait and he said yes…hes a straight A student,good kid,doesnt get in trouble….should i trust him? and he told me he ONLY smokes weed nothing else and does it once a week or 2 for 2 months already…

look for the signs that other drugs are coming into play though
a drug dealer is the gateway, not marijuana, by him going to an unregulated source he is at risk of other drugs because the laws keep marijuana with the e and crack dealers
Marijuana otherwise is safe and at such a small level of use he will be better than okay

Yes. Weed is not a drug. If he does well in school and does not get in trouble let him do what he wants. I started smoking herb when I was about his age and now I’m in med school. So long as he has initiative and desire in the first place it will not hurt him or make his school work suffer. Also, It really doesn’t matter what you tell him. He has done it now for 2 months without you knowing. He will do it no matter what you say. But if you allow it he will get high at home where its safe instead of roaming the streets.

Yes I would say you could trust him, as long as he knows not to get school mixed up. If he is responsible and takes care of all his obligations, then sure it should be ok.
I would discuss the long term effects of pot though, I’ve been smoking it since 16 (23 now) off and on, and over the last couple years it’s become an every day/every 2 day thing. I have noticed my short term memory has dramatically suffered..along with being able to remember vocabulary. I am very bright person, and was able to continue through university at a very successful rate while smoking pot.
It doesn’t necessarily become an addition, but it becomes a habit and habits are hard to break. 13 seems a bit young to be smoking on a regular basis..I believe pot is waaayy better than alcohol because you are still able to function and make good decisions, whereas with alcohol – your inhibitions go right out the door =P plus, you really just get lazy and wanna munch when you’re high haha. -

As long as it doesn’t control him he should be fine. Everything in moderation is the rule, make him understand that. You’d be surprised how many kids use weed to expand their minds. I started smoking weed in high school and it made me focus more while i was studying for exams. My grades went up and my parents were happy. The two worst legal drugs in the world, alcohol and tobacco have killed far more people than weed ever will.
