Parents, what do you think about you children going to parties were there is alcohol?

How many of you allow your children to go to parties were alcohol is present? How many have a “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell Policy”? How many of you would not allow your son or daughter to attend a party with alcohol? I am very interested to hear your views on this subject no matter what they are.

I did when I was a teenager and there is no way I would allow my kids to go to parties where I knew alcohol would be present. I could not risk my kids getting into a car with a drunk driver or possibly being the victim of violence if kids got too out of hand because of alcohol. I know kids will sneak and go to parties anyway but I would never give them permission. I love them too much.

I would never allow my daughter to go to a party where alcohol is present. Drunk drivers kill.

Alcohol is just about everywhere now days.

When my boys are older and want to go to parties, I can only hope that they would be smart enough to not drink, not become pressured to drink and not get in a car with someone who has been drinking.

Well I’m 14 and I don’t like alcohol or ciggerates but no I’m not this perfect child I have had many opportunitys to drink ot get high but I don’t because beer tast horrible and I know I would be choking the entire time trying to smoke what I wish parents would relize is not all children/teens want to drink ot smoke they may try it once but most of the time be like eww why did I do this I’m an idiot then they tell all of their friends it sucks then those friends don’t do it so really alot of kids/teens dont drink or smoke but still alot do I mean kids are giving hand jobs and bj’s on the bus at 12 having sex at 13 and becoming a whore and doing anything for attention at 14 and 15-16 getting arrested for doing these things but not all kids do that and parents dont trust us I know if I wanted to go to a party with alcohol my parents would say no or they might say as long as you dont drink you may go and I wouldnt drink cause beer sucks I mean if you are thinking about letting your teens go to a aparty with alcohol then let them try one of your beers first and ask them if they liked it if they did then you have a problem if they dont then you dont have a problem what I think would be a funny trick on your kids is put a hole punch of different liquids into an empty beer bottle and make sure it taste horrible and say hey you wanna try a sip then when they try it the would be sworn off slcohol for life! hahahaha that would be hilarious lol and it would work so to all of you parents out there do that to your teens and they wont ever want to drink again lol I know if my parents did that to me I would drink anouther sip of alcohol again xD lol I don’t like it anyway but you get what I mean some kids want to drink,smoke, and have sex some don’t and some just want to try it and never do it again please listen to me if you think your kids want to ask them but remember it is the most embarrising and awkward thing that you and your teen could ever do together so just be careful with your words dont sit by them have them sit and you stand about 3 feet away and talk to them you talk and them listen then if they want to say something after your done talking let them but if they dont then just let them walk away they dont need to stare at you to hear you so dont make them they are listening even if their just sitting their playing with their shoes or starring at the floor dont be like LOOK AT ME WHEN I TALK TO YOU DAMNIT! just be carful with your words when you say it and were you say it its very complicated and super awkward and i would rather sit in a tank of spiders then listen to that hope this helps and I hope alot of parents read it and msg me if they have any questions on how to talk to their teens because I am one and I know exactly what teens are saying (NO PERVS)

Nope, wouldn’t allow it, period. Drinking age is 21, parent’s responsibility for kids is until they are 18 – so a parent could be held legally responsible if anything happened to their child if they were given permission to attend a party where alcohol was served. Of course it surely happens, but if I knew in advance, my foot would be firmly planted in front of the door with that ‘You are so not going’ look on my face that my kid could not fight.

There is no way I would let my daughter go to any party with alcohol….That’s just nuts to me that any parent would allow that. You might as well just start supplying them with all the drugs they see or hear people doing.

I’m little more than a kid myself but I think this little discussion/question needs a little from the other side to keep things balanced. I’ve just recently turned 23 so not that far past the stage where I was or wasn’t allowed to drink and go to parties where there was alcohol.

My mother allowed me to make my own decisions, but that may be because I’ve been considered very mature for my age in my early teenage years when I didn’t give in to peer pressure and expectations regarding smoking, drugs and swearing. I’m not religious, nor am I trying to stand on some sort of moral high ground, nor do I care if others do these things around me. Everyone should be free to do what they want so long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else or themselves in my humble opinion. I simply don’t like the smell of cigarettes and heard that they taste really, REALLY bad and I don’t want to bare with something unpleasant long enough to get used to it when I know the benefits are minimal and the losses are tangible. The same applies to drugs and alcohol for me, they’re gross, why bother risking getting addicted to something I don’t like? Swearing was just another personal preference, I’m rather creative with my words when driven by emotion and I found the traditional curse to be quite boring and stifling.

In addition to all this, I was often going to family get-togethers where my relatives were drinking heavily. I witnessed a few examples of behaviour that don’t need to be explained here, suffice it to say that that behaviour was unpleasant and driven by carelessness or aggression caused (or enhanced) by what they were drinking.

Alcohol is not a substance I would want my children (if I have any) to become attached to when they grow up and have them echo such unpleasantness themselves. I can however use myself as a reference point that not everyone does get themselves into those sorts of situations. I plan to raise my children much the same way as I was raised: honestly and openly, telling them about these “adult” matters as soon as I think they can understand them. I would expect them to grow into mature young adults, able to make their own (educated) decisions.

I don’t think trying to ban something is a way to teach a child how to deal with it, they’ll either become curious of what all the fuss is about or rebel because they don’t understand it. Telling your children about alcohol, drugs, sex, religion, etc. with an open mind, ready to answer their questions with as little bias as can be managed by any human being, that is what gives them the tools to make their own decisions and these are the things that only the person themselves can decide. Telling them they can/should/can’t/shouldn’t do something like this is really temporary and pointless and it doesn’t help them survive in the outside world where they won’t have any ability to resist something they know nothing about.

Hope this clears up the other side of the issue a little.

I am 100% against alcohol, i know way to many people who were killed by drunk drivers, and not only that but it does stupid things to you…i despise it!

So no, i will not let my children go to a party with alcohol. I will know where they are at all times, and who they are with…i love my daughter way to much!

My daughter is 20 yrs old and my son is 17 yrs old. I never allowed them to go to parties where i knew there would be drinking and/or drugs. I have always told them that if they had drank even 1 alcoholic beverage or the person driving had been drinking to call me and I will come pick them up. The rule is I will not fuss at them I will come pick them up and bring them home and we can talk about it the following day. If they drink and drive and I find out about it I will take their keys and they know it.
I do know that they have drank when they stayed somewhere I knew they wouldn’t be allowed to drive or leave.
I think the most important thing is to talk to your children about what can happen. Since my daughter will be 21 next month I have also talked to her about not drinking any drink that has been sitting unsupervised in a bar and to only drink beverages that she got from the bartender or waitress because if someone just brings you a drink you don’t know what they may have put in it. Also don’t go alone, take a trusted friend that way you can look out for each other.

I guess what I’m saying is whether you consent or not your teens will likely be in situations where drinking is taking place and you need to talk to them about safety.

i am not a parent, but when i was in highschool no alcohol. they trusted me that i wouldnt lie to them. and i knew if i screwed it up it wouldnt be worth it. idk i honestly was never tempted to go to those parties. i never had friends that did that stuff. so it wasnt an issue.

any parent who lets their underage son or daughter attend a party they know will be serving alcohol is not only irresponsible but criminal.

I would love to say that my children would tell me if the party they were going to had alcohol at it. But reality is, they might not. I wouldn’t allow my son or daughters to go to a party that I knew of that had alcohol. And I’m hoping that if my kids do drink, they do what I did when I was a teen and call my mom or dad to come pick me up so I wouldn’t have to drive.

Well see this is a tough thing for me (luckily I have a few years before I reach this hurdle)

On one hand I think No way in hades would any child of mine go to a party where there is alcohol. I think back to all the stupid mistakes I made as a teenage when alcohol was involved and I’m not proud and quite honestly I’m surprised I made it out alive.

After doing a lot of thinking on this subject this is what I’ve come up with.

Teenagers have always been drinking, just as they’ve always had sex.

These kinds of happenings have been going on for centuries and centuries.

Would I openly say, “Hey no problem, go to that party with the 5 beer kegs. Make sure you’re home by midnight.” No I wouldn’t but I will make sure to tell my children this.

“You are now in a stage of life where I can tell you what to do and give you all the advice I can but at the end of the day you have your own mind and you are going to make your own mistakes. Hopefully I can prevent most of those but the ones I can’t, you will have to learn from. I do not openly condone underage drinking but I’m not so blind as to believe it doesn’t happen and more than likely you will participate. I want you to know drinking is not something anyone should take lightly. Too many good people ruin their lives and the lives of others by doing things like drinking and driving. So I want you to know IF you do decide to drink at a party, I either want you to spend the night at that house OR call me so I can pick you up. I will be angry and I may yell a little bit but I won’t ground you and I will gladly pick you up because I’d rather have to haul my butt across town to pick you up than get a call in the middle of the night to come identify your broken and maimed body at the morgue because you were dumb enough to drive home or get into a car with someone who was drunk.”

I suppose we are talking about teenagers. A party (rowdy no holds barred type) where there is free flowing alcohol, there is a higher probability that there is sex and drugs as well. A fine dining party though with alcohol is more like to have decency, that I can allow. I would not let my child go to rowdy parties simply because no matter how much I trust him, peer pressure is present. School sanctioned parties are ok. Now when they are adults, they can knock themselves out partying and getting drunk. That’s what I did and it certainly kept me out of trouble (teenage pregnancy, diseases, hooked on drugs, smoking, out-of-school, and the list goes on&on). I am proud to say I had fun in a wholesome naughty kinda way but I never gave my parents headache.

i was a crazy teenager and i would never allow my son to go to a party where there was alcohol. im not stupid and i know how kids are, there is just no way i would knowingly put my son in that kind of danger!
