My wife wants me to join alcoholic annyomunious?

My wife and i been married for 10 years i came from a family of alcoholics my grandfather and father was both alcoholics they both died from it shes afraid that i might become one to i reassure her that won’t happen but she told me that she doesn’t want to lose me to alcohol we have a year old son together i don’t know what should i do?
we also have a 2 year old son

well do you drink? if so then go it won’t hurt anything. just ask your wife to go with you so you don’t have to do it alone!

If you do not drink you do not need to go to AA. You could check out Al-Anon if you think it may help.

If you do drink and you think it could be a problem, go to a few meetings, get an idea of what you are up against.

I know they say it is hereditary, but my father and grandfather are ALSO alcoholics and me and my brother both drink about 2 cases of beer combined a year.

Well do you have a drinking problem?? People will addictions don’t see that they have a problem. It takes someone outside of your little bubble to see that something is wrong.

Here is a couple things to think about.. If you can say yes to things then I would consider taking up your wife’s suggestion.
*You’re neglecting your responsibilities
* It’s causing problems in your relationships
* You’re hiding your use around your loved ones.
* You’re drinking to avoid daily stresses and problems.

What is it that you are doing that concerns her? There’s this term called Adult Children of Alcoholics that behave in a certain way in part because of their upbringing. It can cause problems in the relationship and a therapist can help with that. AA is for people looking for support to abstain from alcohol. There’s Al-anon for people who are dealing with alcoholics and need the support of others. Somewhere there you two fit.

I’m glad to read that you both are so concerned for eachother but hopefully your relationship doesn’t suffer based on what if’s.

I can only assume she wants you to join because you are drinking in excess. Until you admit you have a problem..there isn’t much anyone else can do for you. In general, a spouse won’t ask you to go to that kind of meeting unless there is some kind of major problem going on…

If you aren’t an alcoholic, you don’t need to go to a program for alcoholics.

And even if you ARE an alcoholic, AA is not a particularly healthy or safe place to be.
