My son got into trouble at the beginning of summer and has been grounded since What’s up w/ his “friend”????

The friend he got into trob. w/ ( they broke n2 a “friends” house and shot paintballs in the house put holes in walls and stopped a toilet up and drank some alcohol- generally f-ed the place up good) has a pretty hard nosed stepdad and yet he is out and about skateboarding and hanging out w/ friends etc…. Am I being 2 harsh as a parent??? My grounding started the day this all happened in june and hasn’t ended yet. It’s not as if this was a minor thing- the “law” is involved and he has 2 be on probation 4 a year and if he doesnt obey me and his dad or if he breaks the probation rules he can be sent to boys school until he is 18. My son is 15 and his friend is 14.
My punishment is kinda stiff… No phone No friends No going anywhere unless u r w/ me or dad or maybe grandma.. NO SKATEBOARDING NONE – They stole 2 skateboards too- btw.

your not being to hard on your son. he may think its unfair that his friend can do stuff just inform him that you care about him. thats why your punishing him

I think both should be pointed in positive directions such as getting involved with things that don’t include breaking the law including receiving consequences.

It should also be against house rules to break laws that are placed for positive reason and I agree with consequences.

personally i think that you are doing okay, bcause you and i both know that ur son doesnt want to go to a guy school until he is 18. and on the other hand i think that you should ease up a lil bit because the summer is almost over. you should let him have some fun and drop the grounding for a little bit and than pick it up once school starts. like me not having a child but always taking care of everybody elses, i always look like the bad guy, but i know that what i am doing is right. so just ease up a little bit and pick up the grounding during the school year

for what he did, no ur not to tough, in fact, not tough enough. I’d have him copying from the bible, or a some other book. Read some text books, practice his handwritting………breaking into sum1′s house, meesing it up, and stealing from it, is nothing to be takin lightly in the least bit…………..Even consider sending him to boot camp…….seriously

Harsh?? NO, no, no!! You are doing right by your child, and believe me you will be thankful down the road, and so won’t he! Do not worry about that other child, that is between his parents and him.
Believe me, your child will think twice when put in that situation again, that other child will not.
You are the parent, you make the rules. Do not be swayed by how the other parents handle their children. When the other boys name makes the front page, your child’s name will not be next to it, thanks to a loving set of parents and some much deserved “tough love”!!!

I don’t think you are being unfair. you have to teach your son that he has to obey the law, and that what he did was wrong. and not only that, if you lose your grip on him and he gets into trouble, you might lose him again. maybe it is time to start giving him a privilege every now and then. let him earn your trust back. have a talk with him, tell him that you are willing to ease up on him a little, but he has to play by the rules. if he breaks your rules, you can’t trust him not to break the “bigger rules” that are governed by law. and tell him that you love him, and that he needs to learn this lesson so he doesn’t end up in jail. start with little things. a phone call here or there. if he continues to have good behavior, you might let him have a friend over for the night. be picky about his friends and who you allow him to hang out with. take your time, and I’m sure it will be fine. it’s been two months now, and I’m sure he’s learning a great deal. when he’s earned your trust, allow him more and more privileges. in time, he’ll show you he’s past that, and it won’t be an issue any more. good luck!
