How can I protect the kids? They are not being harmed right now and are away from their father who beats the mother. The mother is an alcoholic and has hit her daughter, but not the son yet. They are not in imminent danger so CPS won’t really do anything concrete and could scare my sister away from at least a safe environment with my parents. She won’t enter rehab or stop drinking either.

you should try to keep an eye on your sister, check her out after work or school. if you were too busy to do that, try calling your parents to see if things were okay. what you can do now is to monitor and see if things got worse. above all you should have a heart to heart talk with your sister and try to get her to sort her life out.

The only thing you can do to stop it is to declare her legally incompetant. Otherwise take it from the angle of the kids, if she’s verbally abusive there are probably plenty of witnesses to get the kids taken away (often to next of kin) I was the child of two alcoholics. Make sure they know you are there for them, ask lots of open ended questions and then be quiet and listen. They by nature need lots of reassurance. Next, go to an alanon meeting, alcoholism is a disease that emotionally spreads through the family. You may be a “dry drunk” look it up, its scary how much if often applies to you.

Sadly enough in this country you have to waite until harm has been brought to someone before anyone can rip someones chidren from them. You could make false accusations but you might end up in trouble. Besides most foster care places you get treated worse than what she does.

ya you can’t force her into rehab..because it won’t work unless she is willing to enter rehab…you should probably talk to your parents…they could possibly give her and ultimatum…she can either stop being like that..or she’s out of the house
btw the police would probably say “it’s a family matter” unless she actually did something to hurt the kids

You can not reason with a drunk. The alcoholic is in complete denial! She will not seek help until she has hit bottom. You can talk to her until you turn blue! Forget it. Live your life. You can not live someones life for them. If the children are in physical harm, get the police and authorities involved when it is happening. Your Mom/Dad have the right to do what they want to do in their own home. Here is your best answer……Pray this……
