He was at my mother-in-laws. His aunt is 16 & her b-friend is 23 & he bought alcohol & gave it to my son. My mother-in -law don’t care cause she lets her daughter drink, smoke, take pills, & have sex. She told my son he can smoke weed with them only. She asked him if he has already & he said no. Thank God. What would you guys do besides put him on restriction & take his phone & computer away? Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
My mother-in-law gets really snotty with me but not her son, so as far as his father & I are concerned, he’s not allowed to go there anymore, My husband told them so. Unless were there with him. Thanks everyone who didn’t have a snotty response since this is a very serious matter to us.

and i wouldnt punish him because his grandma was fricken doing it and allowed him to do it. it isnt too fair to punish him for something his bio grandma let him do!! but id let him know how wrong it was and he wasnt allowed to do it again or else he WOULD be getting punished.

He was at his mother-in-laws, he probably didn’t even choose to go there.
He’s a teenager. Their going to make HUNDREDS of mistakes.
Maybe even thousands……But the point is, don’t punish, teach him. This is a wonderful opportunity to show him how harmful and horrible drugs and alcohol and all that stuff are.

What does his father think? How far do you want this to go? You can contact the authorities and let them know you DID NOT give permission for him to do this.. Not sure what state you live in but some do condone drinking underage if it is a a parents house. I would first take it up with the mother in law… Your son is young and you should show him the reasons why drinking is wrong… there is a film that shows what happens to your body when you drink. What brain cells it kills, and the effects it has on someone young that is still growing… punishing him will only make him resent you… He wasn’t with friends doing this he was with adult family members… Your deal is with them

I would say no more vistits with your mother in law and his aunt. Thats just insane, and if they cant respect your wishes for your son not to drink or smoke or any of that stuff then the only time he needs to visit with them is when your around. Plus if someone ever turned them in for this and he was over there you and her would be in aworld of trouble. I would cut that off. As for punishment i would take him on a tour of juvi hall my parents did that to me and threatend to send me to boot camp, scared me strait!

The phone and the computer are a start, but you might want to think about not letting him near your mother in law or aunt again unsupervised meaning without you or your husband or another responsible adult there that is just crazy that a 16 year old has a 23 year old boyfriend and doing all those things I don’t get what people are thinking. I understand your son needs to be punished but if his grandmother is telling him its ok and letting him do it what kid that age wouldn’t I think its the grandmother who needs to be punished.

Break off ties with the nasty old cow. She is trying to sabotage your parenting. She wants to bring your son down to her daughters level to make her feel better about her sh*tty parenting, i mean what mum wants her 16 yo dating a 23 yo anyhow ? plus the drugs, drinking ect. She sucks. Keep your son away from her. I would’nt bet coming down super hard on him, but directing a fair bit of anger toward her. Its a good lesson for him about saying no though. Good luck hey. -

I am saying this because my mother is like your mother in law, i first drank when i was 11, i first smoked weed at about 4-5 years of age, one of her friends thought it was cool to ask the little kid if she wanted a hit while mom was in the bathroom. To this day i am 27 years old, i don’t smoke weed, and i drink once in awhile…my brothers on the other hand will smoke weed with her, and drink with her, even party with her w/ their friends at her house.
My children when they go over there to spend the night i make it plain and clear there will not be any drugs or alcohol being used at all while they are there, and if it is they will not be allowed to go there at all. My kids are young though and i don’t yet have to worry about them wanting to drink or smoke weed. My mom and brothers also know that i’m not joking about the issue and respect the fact of what i wish, they have never smoked weed or drank around my kids because they fear not seeing them again….maybe it’s time you came up with the same ultimatum for your mother in law!
As for his punishment, i think he already recieved it. If he got drunk enough to have a hang over then he knows what alcohol drinking will do to you if you drink too much. What you have done is fine enough, but don’t over do it, he’ll just want to drink all the more, he is not at fault all by himself here, they are more at fault than he is, he’s at the curious age, they should know better! -

He was being told he could, and probably being encouraged by his aunt and her boyfriend.I’d have a serious talk to your MIL, and him.

Dont let him go out anywhere anymore!! And dont ever let him go to his grandmother house either!! Wow ur mother in law´s family is really messed up! He knew that you were not gonna be happy with his behavior, but he didn it anyways..You should call ur in law and tell her that she should be a better grandma and tell ur 16 yr old sister in law to never come near your son again.
