I just found out that my son’s ex-girlfriend is pregnant and it may be his. My problem with this pregnancy is that this girl does hardcore drugs, (she snorted cocaine during a previous pregnancy, not by my son.) I am wondering if there are laws that protect the fetus against harm such as she may be exposing the fetus to. Whether it is my son’s or not I don’t think it is right for a child to start life with the problems one would have from drug exposure.

There aren’t laws against pregnant women doing drugs because that’s redundant do to the fact that there are laws against anybody doing drugs.

Nope. Such laws are seen as an unnecessary intrusion into the life of the pregnant woman. Once you start making laws in order to “protect” the fetus, you start stripping the woman of her rights as a human being. If we have such a precedent, what’s to stop us from creating laws that require women to eat seven servings of vegetables a day, or laws that permit us to chain women to a hospital bed if we think they should “rest” more?

Report her to Health and Human Services, or Social Services if she is on Welfare etc etc etc.

Call Child Protective Services to report your concerns. Most states have laws protecting unborn children from drug exposure.

You may not have noticed, but doing drugs is illegal, pregnant or not. There are no specific statutes against pregnant women. In some cases, it will be grounds for Children’s Services to seize the baby at birth, however, especially if another child has already been seized.
There is no way for anyone to prevent her from doing drugs while pregnant. She cannot be locked up on suspicion.
This is why most children adopted out by Childrens’ Services will have ongoing drug problems.
You might want to speak to your son about the idiocy of giving birth with a drug user.

No, though some pro-life groups have attempted to grant the fetus legal personhood by making drug use by a pregnant woman a special crime. Without getting into all the issues involved here, the bottom line is that drug possession is already illegal.
