Is okay if a father beat up his own son?

My 17 year old friend live with his father because his parents divorced. He was beaten up by his father because he was caught smoking meth in his room and his father found some other illegal drugs in his room like cocaine,oxy,vicodens, and some marijuana, he even tried to commit suicide! In a result of his beatings, he was knocked out and has lots of bruises all over his body. Ever since then, his father follow him everywhere he go school, beach, I mean everywhere. He can’t stay home by himself anymore his father’s friend (a marine soldier) always babysits him every time his father goes to work. His father also installed a some kind of super lock on his bedroom winow. At night my father sleep in his room with him making sure he does’nt sneak out. I think his father beat him up because he love his son.
His father did sent him to rehab but he got worse. Thats why he beat him up.

if the kid is doin all those drugs, he deserves to be punished. I’m not sure beating him up was the correct way to go but… he definitely needs something. The problem is that parents let their children get that far gone and then try to reel them back in and its alot harder to do. The father obviously cares about his son though, and doesn’t want to see him screw his life up for good.

Thats horrible but yes he just did it to protect him. He loves his son and doesn’t want him to throw his life away with drugs. If I caught my son doing all that crap I would probably do the same thing. He’s trying to save him.

I’m sorry but I’d have to disagree with you right there. I’m sure he loves his son, but I don’t think violence is EVER the answer for anything. If he really wanted his son to get better, he should have sent him to a progrmhior rehab or something, not attempt to take matters into his own hands…because it does seem like it’s getting insanely out of hand. Your friend really needs help.

The father had no right to beat up his son, even if he was trying to clean him up through “tough love.” That sort of abuse is illegal, and frankly ill-judged. The father may have good intentions, and it’s admirable that he is going to any lengths to protect the son from his own addiction, but he is going about it the wrong way. This sort of punitive “jail time” is fine in the short run while the son is in detox, but eventually the father will have to rehabilitate the son and teach him how to rebuild trustworthiness and strength.

Because this kid does drugs, he deserves to get severely punished, but i don’t think he should be harmed in any way. If I where his dad I would take him to rehab, so they could talk to him about the dangers, basically, I would try to get my kids life back on track.

sounds like that dad was treated like this by his dad: but he
needs to understand times have changed and his behavior
(beating) is illegal
friend needs to go ER they will report it/counselor or other
relative report it personally,ER best because police cannot
be threatened by father to “mind own business”

I think his father did this because he does care. Now I don’t think it was right, but I don’t think he did it to intentionally hurt his son cause he’s abusive. i think he was in shock and acted on impulse and anger. The son crossed a line and the lines he crossed can kill him along with getting his father in massive trouble for it being in his house. It all sucks but the father made a bad decision on how to handle this, but how do any of us know how we would handle that.
