I’ve kept him for fourth grade and second; his aunt
kept him for third grade. He is almost ten; I am 64
and may have chronic fatigue. She is living out of state with a woman minister, 65 and her son, 14, who has ADHD and is allowed to stay up until
midnight. My daughter lost all her possessions
after a stint with smoking crack. If she gets any money, like from the irs, it’s gone quickly. She is very immature. The boy’s dad has little to do with
him and never calls. My daughter is very healthy
otherwise and strong. She’s just lazy and an ex
crack addict and says he son is just visiting us! She has a real estate license and has been at job number 957 for 2 weeks. I am so resentful of her
I can’t put it into words. Her son is an A student,
but seems nervous and chews things like his lip and shirt sleeves. His nails are chewed as short as
possible. His aunt won’t have him back; he argues with her son, 8, and my daughter (his aunt, 38)becomes very upset and tired.

The problem is not the child, it’s adults who see children as a burden. The poor kid has been shuffled around, no wonder he is such a bundle of nerves. Let him stay in a stable environment, get him some therapy, and quit feeling sorry for yourself, you are an adult.

this is a tricky one! i think you will be best to wait for 6 mnths and see how the situation is then..its early days and she may go back to her old ways…only time will tell!! good luck and by the way your doing a great job… xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx hang in there.

So you are tired of your grandson and no one else, including his mother, wants him. This child is no ones priority, its a wonder he’s not doing more than chewing things. People who chew their nails down to nothing do so because they feel inadequate and insecure about being loved. Your grandson knows you don’t want him, and that there is no one out there who loves him enough to put him first.

Reread your question. And if you really think that living in that environment is what is best for your grandson, then by all means dump him there. Can no one in this child’s life stand up for him and protect him? Shame on all of you.

I’m sorry to hear that you have to deal with such tough problem at a time in your life that should be relaxing and calm. You are quite the grandma. I believe all things happen for a reason. I think your grandson is with you for a reason. It does sound like his mother is trying to get her life in order. Try to be encouraging to your daughter and supportive. She needs all the help she can get. The main question here is ARE YOU READY TO GIVE HIM UP? Half of your letter says yes, while half says no. If his mother has had a job for only 2 weeks then I’d say it’s not been enough time for her to prove herself ready for the responsibility of having her son back just yet. Maybe 2 months would be a better time frame. Is her son in counseling? I would think he is or should be. His mother should be as well. That would be a very important stipulation. If she isn’t then the chances of her recovering is very slim. See that they both get some counseling. That is a big step in the right direction for them both. I’m sorry that I can’t be of more help. Just letting you know that I think your doing a grand job of keeping your family together. Please make sure they get some professional help. Without it, neither one will get very far. God Bless.

I would say not at this time. Maybe counseling would help. He needs a stable environment and a place where he feels loved/safe. His mother is still a very vulnerable woman. I know that it is hard, but he needs the guidance that only a responsible person can provide. His mother needs to prove that she can hold a job and stay away from the drugs. Sounds like you are doing a great job taking care of your grandchild! I am sorry that you don’t have more help though I know that it can be tough.
