In the State of California how is a parent to report that their 4 and 6 year old child has had alcohol?

We are divorce and I am remarried. The childrens father has non-supervised visitation and during one of the visits he gave the children alcohol to try. I am just finding out three months later due to something my son had said to me in regards to my ice tea I made and commenting that it looked like wine. I don’t drink or carry alcohol in my home and it took me for a shock that my 4 year old little girl and 6 year old son knew what wine looked like and tasted like.

in any state you start by calling your local law enforcement (police/sheriff) and make a report.

Knowing what wine looks like is not a crime.

But if you have proof that he gave them wine then you need to call the childrens welfare dept. or the police and they will forward it,.

Buty make sure you can prove it or you will wind up in civil court being sued

woahh u shoudl really tell someone like ur divorce lawyer maybe so that ur ex husband has no longer visits anymore with ur kids

Get a life, you are just trying to get your ex in trouble because you hate him- it has nothing to do with the kids having a taste of wine. I have drank a swig here and there as a kid- many, many parents allow their kids to have a taste and it is NO BIG DEAL. In Europe it is even more natural.
It is sad that parents will use their kids to get back at the other parent and you should be ashamed of yourself

It is better that children learn about alcohol from their parents, then from peers.

Your Children’s father is right to show that what alcohol looks and even tastes like.

Now go and thank him for being a good Dad, discuss with him how to handle your children’s exposure to alcohol and stop fighting your divorce battle though your kids

Big friggin’ deal.
30 years ago when I was 6 years old my dad gave me a sip of his beer, and nobody would have ever thought of making a federal case out of it in those days, nor did it cause any harm. It’s not like the guy loaned your kid a crack pipe or something. Get a job and stop trying to make up reasons to sue people.

First, you’ll need more information – was he giving the kids a taste, or was he feeding it to them in liberal quantities? Are you virulently anti-alcohol, for instance, for religious reasons, and does your ex know that and is feeding them alcohol to spite you? Does your ex come from a culture that accepts children drinking?

Either way, you should go and try to talk it out maturely, instead of going to the sheriff’s office. That seems excessive.

yeah it really aint that big of a deal. My father always let me take a few sips of his beer every now and then and I didnt turn out as an alcoholic. Its good to introduce them to things like that at an early age so they dont go crazy over it when they get older.

There was a study done not to long ago about people who eat chocolate and results showed that people who ate chocolate every now and then as a kid had very few cravings for it later in life as opposed to kids who had restricted diets with candy or chocolate.

The same should factor in for alcohol as well, so I wouldnt really sweat it.

Start by calling your local children’s protective services agency. They will most likely open an investigation in to the matter.
