I love my son more then anything, but I need a night of fun! Before I do this I need to know how safe it is. First I already know that I wont be breastfeeding at all during and the day after. I will suplement with formula. Plus I have a breast pump, so I can pump and then throw the milk away. But how long does alcohol stay in your milk? I want to to make sure its safe before I do anything.
by the way I wont have the baby with me when Im drinking!
If you are gona diss me for asking this then please dont answer! All I want to know is how fast the alohol will get out of my system so I can nurse my baby safley

yes mam everything u eat or drink will get to ur baby through the milk. plz be aware of these things and quit drinking cause my babies sake is much important than alchol.

Don’t Do it. Is your childs health and well being worth it? Gimme a break! Wait until your are done breastfeeding. Either don’t breastfeed or don’t drink. Pick one.
I noticed you are 18. You shouldn’t be drinking anyways. So you got a few years before you should be drinking.

You will be fine as long as you give it 24- 48 hours and drink lots of water after (not right after of course) and pump during that 24-48 hours to make sure you get it out…

A small glass of wine wont hurt the kid, but it is actually not healthy for you to drink excessive amounts while breastfeeding. Everything that goes through your body will show ur in your breast milk, so I say just don’t take the chance. Either ween your baby off breast milk and onto formula, or just don’t do it. The baby should be drinking whole milk when he/she turns one.

American Academy of Pediatrics says alcohol is compatible with breastfeeding and it is fine to drink 1-2 drinks ocassionally and breastfeed right away. However, sounds like you are wanting to have more than that, which is fine, just dont breastfeed right away…if you supplement the next day with formula, it will be fine. Once the alcohol leaves your bloodstream, it leaves the breastmilk…it does not accumulate there, so there is no need to pump and dump, unless you are trying to keep your supply up. In terms of how quickly the alcohol leaves your system, it is variable – having to do with body weight and other factors, like whether you ate or had an empty stomach, etc…but the rule is 2 hours for every drink starting from the time you had your FIRST drink. So if you start drinking at 8pm and have 5 drinks, then you should be good to go by 6am the next morning. However, it is slightly variable, depending on your body weight. I weigh 130 and it is about 2 and 1/2 hours for every drink. People are going to tell you all kinds of things like “you cant drink and breastfeed” or just give you advice not based on any research. This is 100% accurate. I actually researched it for myself by looking up what the American Academy of Peds. says and also researching blood-alcohol levels and the like. I promise this is all true. I wouldn’t have any alcohol . I breast fed both of my children .Every thing you eat or drink affects your milk. I also have to wonder what you will feed your bay when you throw away your milk. If you are going to give him formula it may be hard on his digestive system.

take this from me because i got this information last nite from my sons pediatrician….
the alchohal only takes a toll on the baby if you drink on a regular basis……if you get drunk…dont breastfeed if you wake up in the morning hung over drink plenty of water do not breastfeed until you feel better if you wake up and you feel fine your ok to breastfeed/….

First of all, you *never* need to pump and dump. It *won’t* make the alcohol leave your body sooner. When the alcohol leaves your body, it will be gone from your milk–unless your breasts are, for some reason, no longer part of your body!!!!
If you drink 1-2 normal sized drinks, you can nurse immediately. It won’t harm your baby, although she/he will get small amounts. It is less dangerous than formula.
If you drink more than that, once you are feeling “neurologically normal” (that’s the actual term used), you can nurse. Two to three hours after drinking is all that’s necessary. Occasional drinking will *not* harm your baby; again, it is potentially more dangerous to give formula. (About 8000 babies a year die in the US as a result of being formula fed.)

i think this would be a better question for your doctor. I have some friends who have breastfed and they had to be careful about taking even tylenol or other small pain medications because they may hurt the baby so I’m sure the alcohol could hurt the baby just like the tylenol. ???
