They say that if you breastfeed every three hours, that you should have your alcoholic drink right after you finish a session, so that you have 2 hours to sober up and for the alcohol to dissipate before you breastfeed again. You are also not supposed to have more than 1 alcholic drink a day no matter what.

Here is a great page that will answer your question. Sorry, too much info to type it all myself.

I drank while breastfeeding and I am overly cautious about this topic. Not one drop while I was pregnant. I waited atleast 3 hours to nurse, or I pumped and dumped and fed my boys breast milk from the freezer.
La Leche League’s THE BREASTFEEDING ANSWER BOOK (pp. 597-598) says:
Alcohol passes freely into mother’s milk and has been found to peak about 30 to 60 minutes after consumption, 60 to 90 minutes when taken with food. Alcohol also freely passes out of a mother’s milk and her system. It takes a 120 pound woman about two to three hours to eliminate from her body the alcohol in one serving of beer or wine…the more alcohol that is consumed, the longer it takes for it to be eliminated. It takes up to 13 hours for a 120 pound woman to eliminate the alcohol from one high-alcohol drink. The effects of alcohol on the breastfeeding baby are directly related to the amount the mother consumes.
If it was just one drink two hours. you don’t have to pump and dump either.Your baby will be fine. If you are drinking more than that you will have to pump and dump. Make sure you have enough pumped ahead of time to give him. Good luck
