I say you cannot lose your licence – people ride bikes who do not have driving licences. My son-in-law says you can! Who is right?

In my state the code reads “motor vehicle” and you’d just get arrested for intoxicated in public

your right. You can not loose your driving licences. No more than if you were walking down the street drunk. So long as you were not driving a motor vechicle your ok. You still can arrested for public intoxication!!!

It’s quite possible, depending on where you live, and that States definition of drunk driving.
In my town it would get you a ride home, for your own safety. Or, you decide to be an idiot as well as a drunk, you will get nailed for public intoxication and spend the night in the county drunk tank.

You can get a citation in most states for dui, because you are a danger to others and yourself. If you’re not in an accident, you may cause one, by others trying to get out of your way. You may have to go to traffic school, get fined and it may count as points on your driving record. Motto: Don’t drink and bike!

It all depends on the state laws and your city ordinance laws, but since you bike is not a “motor vehicle” it should not affect your license to operate a motor vehicle. If you think about it anyone including a 5 year old can operate a bicycle.

The impaired laws refer to motor vehicles, not to bicycles. So you are correct. But personally, driving a bicycle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, strikes me as a shortcut to the emergency ward.

nope, has to be a motorized vehicle….here’s a fun one !!! you can be cited for DWI if you are drunk and operating a motorized wheel chair.
