please tell me what site to find the proper info on letting toddlers take even little sips of alcohol. is dangerous. I know that I’ve read that it can cause big problems. He’s the biggest A-hole on the planet and he won’t listen to me. I need proof.
You’re not going to find “proof”, because although it seems horrifying, it probably isn’t harmful. Clearly little kids should be boozing it up, but in a lot of countries, small children have a taste of alcohol on special occasions and those countries have lower rates of alcoholism.
Now, if it is YOUR child, you clearly have the right to your wishes. And, yes, if I saw a person letting their toddler drink sigificant amounts of alcohol, I’d call CPS, too.

Bet him that the people at 911 will give him a lot of reasons not to. They’ll send a specialist over to his house for free.

to be clear – it’s not the sips of wine or beer that are dangerous, it’s the environment that tolerates alcohol abuse and the message that the kid gets on weather or not it’s OK to be drunk in public that lead to long-term problems (like driving drunk).
In some cultures (including Germany and France) a bit of alcohol with a meal is acceptable – so long as it is the parent who makes that choice, not any other adult.
In any event, if you’re just looking for info, call you local child welfare services and ask for information on alcohol’s effect on the young (and remember, your nephew is not going to believe them either).
You can also ask them for advice on whether or not this is a reportable offense. Then, if you wish, you can have him busted but you run the risk that child welfare may take the child away either temporarily or permanently.
You have to ask yourself, then, if this is what you want.

Yes it’s common in some European countries for youngsters to have the occassional sip of wine..but we’re talking about adolescents not toddlers!! Giving alcohol to toddlers is so dangerous and irresponsilble. I wouldn’t even rely on a website to give this idiot some advice. Personally I would call the police or at least Children Protection Services.

Hey guys, stop saying some countries give their kids wine/beer and it’s actually limiting alcoholism… we’re talking about a 14mth old, not a 14yr old. My husband is French and we lived their for over 3yrs, having our daughter there, and let me tell you first hand this would NOT HAPPEN. They are very open with alcohol but not with babies/toddlers!!
I’ve been trying to find a site to give info on this, but there just isnt any. Plenty of the effects on babies who’s mother drank while pregnant. Probably because it’s a given right, that you wouldnt give a baby alcohol. Some think to ‘drug’ their baby to make them tired and go to sleep, but that is so dangerous. Babies can die from a spoonful of cough medicine for crying out loud, their bodies are so fragile. I found a story of parents killing their child by giving her vodka, but that was it.
Your nephew really needs to grow up. A baby isnt something to experiment with.
