You are kind of old to be asking for divorce advice from yahoo answers don’t you think? Anyway why don’t you stage an intervention for your wife or go to marriage counseling.

Please don’t take the advice of anybody here. See a qualified marriage counselor together, or go by yourself if she won’t go. If you don’t know of one, ask your doctor or religious leader for suggestions.

Yeah at this point I think you owe her some real help.
Alcoholism becomes an abuse cycle and people “ignore the elephant in the room” and make excuses and essentially enable the alcoholic instead of punishing them for their bad decisions as needs to happen.

Contact al-anon, give your marriage at least another year to try for change.

Be prepared to a long drug out experience. The court can put you off in getting your divorce due to the length of marriage. My brother in law was married 32 yrs and when he tried to get a divorce his took 7 yrs ( the court kept putting it off). Her lawyer messed with my bro. in law and after he gave up the house, 1/2 his retirement and everything he owned the judge signed off on it. I felt real bad for him. They had grown apart and he wanted out.

So get your ducks in a row before her lawyer gets his hooks in you. It’s tough to get a divorce sometimes when you’ve been married a long time.

Maybe if you can remember why you married her, that might make you stay and go to counseling with her. Does the “why” out way the “worst” in “for better or worst”?

“Thirdly, I’d just like to say “‘How amazing do the bridesmaids, maid of honour, best man and page boy look?”‘. You lot certainly scrub up well. Usually I’d encourage the best man to try and get off with one of the bridesmaids, but in this case DAD (he’s my best man) I wouldn’t advise you too unless you want to leave tonight with your knackers being used as earrings. Make sure he doesn’t drink too much, Mum.”

“And lastly, well, the woman I married today – doesn’t she just look incredible? I can’t quite believe my luck. I appreciate so many of you haven’t ever met Jade (my wife-to-be) before so I’ll give you a brief account of how we meet and how everything has led up to today. It was January 2008 when I first met her. We were in the seating area of a crowded nightclub, she was sitting with a couple of her work colleagues and I was supposed to be in the company of my friend, but he’d already set his eyes on a leggy blonde on the dancefloor. I just couldn’t stop gawping at how beautiful she looked – thank God she came over to speak to me. We started to talk, discussing what we did for a living, our interests and I just remember thinking “Gorgeous, funny, kind, caring, clever – no wonder she fell in love with me!”‘ (Pause for laughter). From then on, we went on several dates, fell in love with each other and I proposed to her on Christmas day 2008. I waited 29 years to find this woman and I’m so glad I waited that long. So sweet. Can you remember your wedding day, when she was the only thing that mattered and you would rescue her from anything? Or have you grown tired and it doesn’t matter anymore.

If you look at the bottom line here – your wife has a weakness, that she doesn’t realize, and/or she is in denial about, and therefore does not seek change – this is HUMAN. I realize that the alcohol thing is a biggie. So is cheating, abuse, etc.

What may happen, is that you leave her only to hook up w/ another woman who also has a weakness, that she doesn’t realize and/or she is in denial about, and therefore does not seek change. The same thing – but a different vice, perhaps. You will be keener to look for a woman who does not have the same vice (alcoholism), but you will likely miss the boat on several other vices.

Another thing – surely you have some type of “weakness” that you are “blind” to, so to speak. Take some time to think about this and try to change it. Are you loving your wife as a husband should and/or promised to on his wedding day? Are you doing the things you should be doing? Take some time to seek to better yourself. Perhaps your wife will see your humility and desire to make positive changes in her life as well. Iron sharpens iron. How are you building her up? How are you helping her positively change?
