My brother is an alcoholic. My father is a classic enabler. My father has rediscovered his Catholic faith…my father believes he cannot do anything to change his son. My father is 72, brother is 41. My brother “works” for my father..lives on his property…my father pays him, his legal bills, etc. If my father can see something from the bible that would inspire him to believe that he can still help….it might work.

There is a verse that says God’s arm is not so short that He cannot save to the uttermost.
Your father’s most powerful weapon is prayer, in the name of Jesus Christ, for God to save your brother.

Alcoholics Anonymous will help your brother far more than a bible verse will. Once there, your brother will be encouraged to find his own Higher Power. Good luck.

Jesus said the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand 2000 years ago. That is because we can die at any time, and be faced with that Reality. People
do reincarnate. But there is no guaranatee they won’t end up in a lower reality for a time. And we would want to evolve to the point where we don’t have to return here any more.

Sometimes a person has to hit ‘rock bottom’ before they realize they are on the wrong path. You and your father could BOTH pray to God for his recovery. Does your brother believe in God? Will he allow people to help him? Your comment on legal bills indicate he COULD have been in trouble with the law, or family problems. It would help to know WHY your brother drinks.

Try looking up the story of the prodigal son. Sounds like it might help. Tell your father it is a sin to give up hope. Actually it is a very serious and grave sin to give up hope, because it is a sin against the Holy Ghost. Tell your father to speak to a good priest, not one of these new order give yourself a hug and paint your nails purple kind, but a good traditional priest. http://www.traditio.com has a national registry list for all Latin Masses in the country with names and numbers of some of the priests.
