I am very ashamed to say my son went AWOL from the army. He finished basic training and was in AIT.?

He was picked up yesterday by local police after being gone 3 1/2 months. He was taken to county jail over night and the military picked him up this morning. He has been heavily using meth shooting up. What happens now where did they take him will we be informed does anyone know?

He most likely will end up in the brig. As for when you’ll be informed I am not sure. Hopefully somebody here will know. Have you tried asking the local police to see which base picked him up?

Sometimes Military life doesnt suite all. Its a shame it happened, but he will be charged most likely, cause going AWOL is a serious thing, and hopefully he can get off of drugs,. they cant really f people up.

Yeah, im ashamed of my brother too. He was a Marine when he got sick of it because apperently it was “evil” (he’s not a hippie or anything, he just joined for the wrong reasons) so he ran away with his stripper girlfriend (no joke). His superior called today and said that they found him. idk what will happen to him.

Jail hopefully….disgrace…im also sorry for you. but he will probably go to jail and then chaptered out where they will kick him out…dishonorably discharge

At a minimum, he will receive an Article 15 for being gone. More than likely, they will take it to a court-martial for desertion and unlawful use of a controlled substance since all returning troops who are AWOL or deserters have to get an urinalysis within 72 hours, showing his meth use. Expect him home in a few months at a minimum if they opt to simply chapter him out. However, since he didn’t voluntarily turn himself in and he was arrested they will probably throw the book at him and he will spend some time behind bars.

I’m sorry for your trouble…

After he is processed he may be able to contact his immediate family. I am sure that they will have to get him checked in to a brig or other holding facility. He may be just restricted to barracks…most likely he will be in a military brig.

If he behaves himself he should get a chance to use the phone…but I don’t know the rules…

The police may be able to release information to where they took him..but I don’t know for sure what the police will be able to tell you.

You might get a family lawyer for your son…he will need a good lawyer anyway. If there is an agreement then the lawyer may be able to work some with you…but then there are privacy laws and with out consent from your son, even the lawyer might not be able to tell you much.

From my experience (of what I observed happen to others) most of the time people are taken to the last base where they had duty. So there is a good chance he is at what ever base where he was in AIT…because that is still his official command….

don’t worry to much they will just kick him out after awhile.
i doubt he will see any real time if any behind bars.
he will just be taken back to his unit put on suicidal watch with someone
guarding over him. taken to see a chaplin or doctor and be treated for drug abuse.

of course they will fine him and so on’..give him 45 days of duty.
umm…then kick him out with a dishonorable discharge.
like i said don’t worry..people go awol all the time with out seeing bars.
