How long do I need to cook (boil) beer to get the alcohol to evaporate?

I am making chili and just added a beer for flavor. How long does it need to cook for the alcohol to be gone? I would like to send this with my son for lunch tommorow and would hate to be called to pick up my drunk 6 year old from school…lol.

The alcohol evaporates immediately, it’s long gone.

The alcohol will burn in a couple of seconds because alcohol is very flammable. So if you cooked it for a couple of minutes you should be fine.

You will never get all the alcohol out, but what little amount remains won’t harm you. Just bringing it to a boil is all it takes. Alcohol evaporates at 165 F, and beer boils somewhere around 212 F.

alcohol evaporates at 170 degrees so if you can make sure the temp is at 170 or little higher for short period of time it will be out.

i wouldn’t worry about it at all. you have to cook chili for hours anyway. the alcohol will be gone within 30 minutes no matter what.

As a general rule,any ether based alcohol ‘cooks out’ after the blue flame goes out after food items are ‘flambed’.Generally 30-60 sec. if your sauteing. Ex; brandy,wines,vodkas etc.

In your chili however,bring it up to a slow simmer for 3-5 minutes,and things are good to go.Another suggestion would be next chili time…try O’Douls non alcoholic beer,then you’d be worry free altogether..

The bad news is you’ll never get ALL the alcohol out, but one beer in a whole pot of chili will be a negligible amount per serving anyway.

More than half of it cooks off with 15 minutes of simmering.

around 15 minutes.
shouldn’t take long.
alcohol has a lower boiling point.
Tends to leave… before the water boils.
