How do I protect my son from the influence of my mother in law’s boyfriend?

My mother in law’s boyfriend drinks excessively, he smokes weed, he occasionally does cocaine, he can’t keep a job and he mooches off my mother in law. I just don’t want my 2 year old son around him at all. How do I keep my son away without having to stop going to family functions. Can I tell my husband’s family they must choose between him or my son? They all seem to like the loser!
Yes i have talked to my husband about it and he says that i don’t need to worry about it right now until the next holiday. I am just worried because i know they all (including my husband) think that I am being a drama queen since i don’t like the guy and I am afraid they will choose him over us.

explain it nicely to your husband and then just try to keep your son away from your mother in laws bofriend and when you ask him make sure its a good time and be romantic 2 lol

hmmm. you have to chose who’s important. your child or the feeling of your dysfunctional inlaws. Just don’t bring the kid around and be honest about the reasons if you are asked. If they don’t like it, f em. you’re a grown up now, stand up and do what’s right.

stop going to places he will be at, if you MIL wants to see your son she can visit you with out the loser boyfriend. Tell your family how you feel about the situation and tell them that the loser needs to stay away from your son.

If you know he does cocaine, make sure to turn him in, ANONYMOUSLY, sometime when your son is not around him. If your son is of the age you could send to some kind of summer camp for a few weeks, send him there so he is safely away as the boyfriend is being hauled off. Problem solved.

I would just tell them that if “loser” is there then you will not be attending. If they want to see your son, they will have to come to your home without the loser. I dont blame you for wanting to keep your son away from a “user” like that. Who knows how he behaves when he is under the influence. Just tell the family you will not subject your son to that type of environment.

You obviously aren’t going to stop your m.i.l’s bf however, what you can do is invite the mother down for coffee as so she can visit with Spike and avoid the whole bf thing.

You do not ever allow your child to be around people like that. So what they are his family?? If they are not going to add something positive to that child’s life, or they are interfering with your raising him, then they need to be removed from the child’s life.

You do what I did if you’re serious. You raise him in a solid bible preaching church so he grows up seeing what decent men are like, he learns the difference this way.
I also limited my son’s exposure to certain people, my mil & fil who drink and argued all the time, especially on holidays.
One hour & we were out of there, now we don’t see them at all. If any people wanted to be around my son they had to be decent, no dirty jokes, etc. He is your major responsibility.
