I’m looking for some answers on how to help my brother.He is an alcoholic and is drinking again.He has a 2 year old son and a fiance.His fiance is probally going to leave him now and take there son but, everyone in my family is always worried about my brother, what is he going to do?How much is he going to drink, is he OK.I’m afraid that if we leave him alone he is going to hurt himself or someone else. He is a great liar, he hides his alcohol, have no idea where. I just want to make sure I take all steps in trying to help him incase something bad does happen, I don’t want to have this guilt left on me, that I didn’t try.

Sounds like he just wants to be high. I have a friend who stopped drinking immediately and smoked pot instead. It may be illegal, but worth a try.

There should be a community service near you that you can seek help from. Check in your local telephone book.

sounds like you’ve done all you can. some people just walk a path that they can’t or don’t want to stray from. if his son and fiance aren’t enough to stop, i doubt you or anyone else will be able to convince him to quit. let him do it until he hurts himself or someone else, or loses everything he holds dear. sounds like this hasn’t happened yet but it will and for most people its the most sobering thing.

9 out of 10 ur brthers been pampered alot and hes wanting attention…..a fast way to fix this is if hes oing to make his own bed let him lay in it…..he needs to grow up…reality or losing his kid will make him grow up fast………he needs tpo face life and deal with it…..this will be his wake up call…sometimes it takes harsh things to wake a man up…..defenityly show him no pitty

show him videos that sent information on how he will loss his family,friends and love ones, how alcohol destroy human beings internal organ and after effect. Ask him if he really love his son and if he want to see his son grows without a fther or grows up to be like him

unfortunately for you and everyone else involved, he is the only one who can decide to quit, and most need to hit rock bottom before they make that decision..reading such books as Co-dependant no more, may help you, at this point you have to practice tough love and realize that you have no control over him or his choices..offer support but don’t let it consume your life..offer to go to meetings with him, let him know you’re there for support in quiting but that’s it.

He needs to admit he has a problem before anything can be done. Why don’t you have an intervention with consequences attached if he doesn’t choose treatment?
You should never feel guilty for your brother’s decisions. You have to live your life too and as bad as it seems, it’s not your responsibility to be his keeper. His fiance also has a mind of her own and she shouldn’t be there with that child. And you have to ask, is she enabling his alcoholism by not taking control?
If he denies treatment, you should all cut him off until he decides to change. It’s tough love but it’s necessary. At this point I would be more worried about the child than him. -

No matter how hard you try to help him, he has to want to help himself!!! He will have to hit his “rock bottom” & want to climb out for himself! I know it feels like a helpless situation for you, but really the best you can do is pray to your Higher Power that your brother will be kept safe until he reaches out for help! Try going to some alanon meetings to learn how you can cope with his behavior & maybe you will pick up some info that may help him to realize how bad his drinking really is! God bless you!!!!!!

There is nothing YOU can do to help an addict, they need to want the help them self and until the day comes where he wants help unfortunately theres nothing you can do for him. I tried for almost 2 years to get my sons father off drugs. He was in and out of detox and rehab 4 times in 5 months. He didn’t want the help was the problem. Its been 2 years since we have seen him. Hes still using. but I know my son is better off. He even stole from our son to get drugs. Im sure you have done everything in your power to help him. But you cant make him want the help. Dont ever allow yourself to feel guilty for someone elses addiction.

I am an alcoholic. Bless you and people like you for sticking by us, for we know not what we do… We only really understand the pain we put you through after we take a much closer, more honest look at ourselves. Sorry. He has to do it on his own, and it’s a very rough road… My wife and parents had more than one call saying i wouldn’t live through the night. You can put up all the roadblocks ya want, it won’t stop him until he’s done… just love him when he wants help again (and maybe again and again)… But it seems you should have a clear conscience. By the way, try reading these chapters in the “big book of alcoholics anonymous”.. 7 & 8 (working with others and to wives) and see if you can find someone from AA who might talk to him (we mostly won’t listen to anyone except another drunk)… but he might just need some hardship…I’ll pray for you.
