How do I convince my husband not to smoke in the house?

I practically beg him not to smoke inside but he still smokes in our sons bathoom (its not in his room-he’s three) and he smokes at the front door with the storm door barely cracked. He knows that secondhand smoke is dangerous but it’s like he doesn’t care. Our son was born with his lungs collapsed so I’m even more afraid of him smoking around him.(he didn’t smoke around me while I was pregnant though) How do I get him to stop? Am I overreacting? Is it really not that bad when he only does it a few times a day? And advice would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

I know this is serious because I live with a 2 pack per day smoker that had a heart attack and still smokes but you can have a little fun along the way. I heard this years ago. Tell him you found a 10 day cure for smoking. Every day for 10 days you are going to surgically remove one of his fingers!!!

Here’s an idea. Why don’t you try placebos? They’re basically fake pills (sugar pills) and tell him that they’re gaurenteed to help him quit smoking, and they’ve been tested, they’re safe and add whatever else. It’s kind of psychological thing. you can tell him that it’ll help him quit for an hour 2 hours for life whatever. Just watch psychology do its magic. And make sure you don’t tell him that they’re fake until he quits 100%.

you are not overreacting. 1 time out of the year is too much. Every time you catch him you need to give him hell. you cannot force him to stop all together. he will do that when he is ready. but you need to stand up for your child. stop asking and tell him that it its unacceptable to smoke in the house. your baby needs you to do this. tell him to go outside AND SHUT THE DOOR BEHIND HIM.

There’s no excuse for him to be smoking anywhere in a house with a child. Children can’t take themselves out of situations that are unhealthy for them, and as such it is our responsibility as parents to keep them from harm.

I smoke, and I have a five year old child, and he has never lived in a house where smoking occurred indoors. As a responsible smoker, I go outside to smoke, and that’s the way it should be. If we are willing to kill ourselves with tobacco, our children don’t need to suffer the same fate.

Just talk to him sensibly about the health effects of smoking, and the effects it could have on your child, because even though you may not be able to still “see” the smoke indoors, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t linger. Not to mention that it just stinks up the house!

Leave.Go stay somewhere and tell him you aren’t coming back until he stops smoking in the house.He needs to take his lazy ass out to smoke his cancer poison.And YES, it is THAT bad even if its just once a day.
