Fellow atheist, i could sure use some cosmic rational.?

Recently, i lost my daughter to cancer, last year my sister. A couple years ago my son to an overdose of cocaine. My mother died about three years past and my Dad passed when i was 10. Luckily when I was around 8 or 9 my Aunt in California enrolled me in the Science Fiction Book Club and I was introduced to some straight thinking and didn’t get bogged down in the Religions that were force fed to us here in the foothills of the Ozarks.
I could use a little inspiration. I read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins awhile back and really enjoyed it. Any other suggestions?

It seems to me that with all the losses you’ve suffered that you should be looking for God instead of looking away from God. I’m not saying the Jesus, Christian God, I’m saying God and spirituality in General. We had to come from somewhere. Search for the peace you seek, not for the reasons not to believe ina creator.

Why restrict your audience to “fellow atheists”?

In any case, check out Douglas Hofstadter’s GODEL, ESCHER, BACH: An Eternal Golden Braid.

(Of course, only if you are open minded. It won the Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction.)

I’d say less reading and more new people. I mean, granted, nothing will really replace your lost family members, but you still need some people in your life.

You’ve had a rough road, I’m sorry to hear that.

One of the best books I’ve read in a while is the Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver. It’s a story told from several perspectives, and is deeply insightful into some of the various aspects of the human condition.

First, I’m sorry for all your losses, I can relate.

Christopher Hitchen’s “god is not great: how religion poisons everything.” He makes some historical errors, but his take on the way many faithful abuse their so-called faith is spot on. It is not uplifting but it is informative.

Also, the books “Living Buddha, Living Christ” by Thich Nhat Hanh &
“The Art Of Happiness” by the Dalai Lama represents logic, reason,
& common sense that many of the robotic, intolerant faithful are oblivious to.
