Ex says he’s been out of the picture due to using meth. Now is suddenly clean. Not sure how to handle it.?

What is the likelihood that someone can use Meth “recreationally” several times a week and not be hooked?

My ex recently came back in the picture claiming that he dropped out of my sons life 6 months ago because he went down the wrong road and started hanging around bad people and started using meth. He said “it’s not like I’m addicted or anything. I quit a week ago. I just used it to help me deal with the feelings I was having about my life sucking so bad.”

Would you buy it? Believe him?
I have no intention of getting back together with him. we’ve been split for two years. He left because he wanted his “freedom”. I’m just concerned about my son. He’s 4 and my ex says he wants to start coming back into the picture regularly now.

under no circumstances would i consider getting back together with a drug addict who has been “clean” for a friggin’ week. tell him to come back to you when he has been clean for a YEAR.

ps. everyone’s life sucks so bad sometimes. using meth (or booze or whatever) to assuage the pain is a hallmark move of an immature mind.

the answer to your question is your ex needs serious help for his drug habit,I would never except his words, action speaks louder then words,tell him If hes serious about you and your child,tell him that he needs to talk to someone with his issues,and try to work out what really wrong with him,if he doesn’t go for help,then the next time hes down in the dumps he will only use again.If you love him and you want to be truly happy then your ex must see someone with his issues,you could offer to go with him,and tell him whatever problem hes going through that you will always stand beside him no matter what the problem is.(please he needs help.)

No I would not believe him there is nothing recreational about meth. He dropped out of your sons life before he started using meth and running with the wrong people. I am sorry but people like him piss me off he had you a son and he is talking about how his life sucked. He should be concerned how this made you and your son feel but I have a feeling it is still all about him that he is worried about. A week of being clean or out of money and done with the “bad people” or just taking a break would be what I would want to know. You do not hang around bad people unless you make that choice and he made that choice over you and your son. I am not saying he is a lost cause unless I knew more but I am saying I would not just take his word for it. Sorry if I come across as a jerk.

Would you believe any other drug addict? That makes about as much sense as saying you urinate “recreationally”.
