My sons dad wasnt around for the first 3 years, then around for a year but didnt follow through with visits. Now has disappeared again for a year and is now asking for visitation. He owes me 23,000 in back child support and does drugs and is an alcoholic. I am asking for supervised visitation. But I read that that in general that is for physical abusers. Do you think I have a chance to get this?

With a good attny, and solid proof of your accusations, I don’t believe you will have a problem. In fact, he may not be allowed visitation at all.

no, not only. you can ask judge to order him to take a drug and alcohol tests. you have a reason to believe you child can be in danger. it would help if he has any criminal records or arrests for those things. but either way, even if he gets the child without supervision, just stick around and call the cops if he gets drunk. then call DSS if needed, and you will get it either way.

I think there shouldn’t be a problem in your case.
However, I do think family law has too many loop holes. I understand why people loose it. My husband has temporary custody of our child. And that happened when my attorney advised me to sign a paper. Here it is five long months later and I am still fighting. Family law is not fair.

Don’t you get that laws differ from country to country, and even from state to state within the same country? What sort of meaningful answers do you expect to get on here if you don’t even say where you are? Ask your lawyer.
