Do I have right to be upset if my son goes to my ex’s husbands parents for labor day weekend without his mom?

I normally have my child on the weekends but this time my ex asked to take him with her and her husband to his parents 6 hours away for labor day weekend bash but at the last minute she gets sick and stays home by herself. My sons stepdad is a nice guy(what little I know about him) but he is not his dad and also is not very good at disciplining my child and making him “mind”. From what I have heard about these “shindigs” is there are lots of people and lots of alcohol and I am worried that my son(who is 9) will sneak away unsupervised and get to doing something he hadn’t oughta be doing.

I was not informed that she did not go until it was too late, otherwise I think my son should have stayed with me.

Is this wrong of my ex to allow this to happen? Should I jump her a$$ about this? Is this something I could use against her in court?

I don’t know about court. But I can tell you that I (as a step-mom) wanted to take the kids out of state and my hubby said no. He said the kids’ mom would have a fit if i took them and he wasn’t there. I thought it was no big deal and it wasn’t even about time, they were going to be with us anyway. apparently, mom or dad needs to be with them if going somewhere. I thought it was harmless and she trusts me with the kids, but with him not there, it’s a no go!

Since you agreed to it before hand it can not be held against her in court. The reason is that they would have already informed your son that he could go, therefore, building his anticipation of the get together. I do not think jumping onto her would be good either. Simply because it would just cause more of a gap than what you already have. If you haven’t done so already you should ask for some extra time to make up for what you missed with him though. It is not only what is fair but what would be beneficial for your son.

you have every right to be upset when things involve your child. hes around people that you have never met without your ex to supervise him, however she does trust them and you should take into consideration her judgement. i dont think you should get overly angry though, if she got sick it wouldnt be fair to deprive him of the get together and like you said its a 6 hour drive, not like you could just swing by and pick him up.
