Okay, I am a step mom to 9 month old Chris. Anyways, his mother called his dad and demanded we let her see him. The thing is she signed over all of her rights when she didn’t complete rehab. So my fiancé Jay, has full custody. Well she found out where we lived and showed up at 6 am today. We called the cops and had her arrested for breaking a restraining order. Should we have let her see him or did we do the right thing. Btw she is a meth head.

Um…well I used to be a meth head too…and I can tell you that if she showed up at 6 this morning…it’s because she’s been up all night or more.
HELL YES you did the right thing.
It’s real simple…all she has to do is get clean and follow the court order…if REALLY wants to see her son…she’ll stop tweaking.
Don’t feel bad…I know it feels like you’re being mean…but think of the kid…
Kids with mothers like that die everyday because the drugs are more important…so don’t worry about her druggie butt…just know that you’re doing right by the kid.
Just focus on what’s good for him…let her work out what’s good for her.

You absolutely did the right thing. Personally I would try my best to keep the little guy safe from her until I know for sure his mother was clean. I have a similar situation with my older son (his father is a meth head as well) My son is fully aware of the situation with his father and I made the mistake of letting them see each other last year and it was not good. Just remember to be honest with Chris as he grows up and I bet he will understand the older he gets. Good for you for being a great step-mom =)

You did the right thing. If she is not clean then you are subjecting your step son to that life if you let her see him. It happens once, then twice, then on and on till she is asking for custody again. Until she shows you that she is clean and has the best interest for him then don’t let her in his life. You are hurtin him more than her if you let her have some control and she isn’t clean. I have a friend that is exactly the same way I told her to her face that she has to be clean to be a part of her kids life or it will just be hell on the kids life in the end. Good Luck!

If she want’s to see him she should call ahead and make an “appointment” to see him and have a SUPERVISED visit.
My Uncle had to go thru a similar situation with his ex, she abused anti-depressants to the extreme and was a hard core alcoholic. He kicked her out because she was so drunk and messed up she couldn’t look after their baby twin girls and didn’t even know where they were (my grandmother found them out playing in the snow in their pj’s at 1 years old) he tried to help her thru rehab but she wouldn’t clean up, so he got sole/full custody. Even the police were disgusted with his now ex.
You definately did the right thing, the baby’s overall health and well being is the most important thing right now.

I think i will elaborated a little more on what others are saying and add it to what i think. Yeah it is fairly odd she showed up at 6 am. She did sign over rights. BUT even though she did sign them over, she is the mother. I think it was kind of smart but at the same time not.
I say this because it is the childs mother for one thing, and 2 she should still be able to see her child. SUPERVISED ONLY. i wouldnt let her sit and chill with the baby alone. Id be a little weary of that. But i would still allow her to see her chill. Limit how much, times, if she can actually hold the child or not, etc.
Just because she does meth, doesnt necessarily mean she should not be able to see her child. I guarantee that if you were in her position, you would probably still want to see your child. Imagine having your child taken away and not seeing them any longer.

As hard as it is, you did the right thing. I am sure she wanted desperately to see her son, but until she gets her act together, he will be better off without her for right now. As long as dad has full custody and there is a restraining order in place, she’ll have to show some good intentions first before having the privilege of seeing her son.
