4month old that is Pre teething?

My sister has a 4 month old that is pre teething. This is her 1st child and he was born addicted to crack,meth, and herione,
( He is not her biological son,but hers never the less)

He is a perfect child with a clean bill of health(SO FAR) The problem is he is PRE TEETHING. He will not take a pacifer or a chewing ring or wash cloth. HE only wants his hands. I told her to give him Advil to take the edge off but due to the fact he was born addicted to so many things she wants to try and only give pain meds such as Advil and Tylenol only as truly needed.

I recommended trying Hylands Teething Tablets. Does anyone have any other advice. Because we all know you have to try them all before you find the one that works for you.

I understand your sister’s concern over giving him medicine, but when he teethes he will have a slight fever and she should give him some advil or tylenol. These are very well studied drugs and the recommended dosage for babies and children is very safe.

I would continue to offer him cold chew toys. One of these days he may decide he likes them!

Try rubbing his gums gently. Apply a little pressure with your finger, and rub it around as though you were brushing his teeth. That helped my daughter a lot when she was too uncoordinated to hold a teether toy. Also, you could buy some baby orajel and rub that on his gums- it numbs the gums, but isn’t a drug like tylenol.

I used teathing tablets…but there is an old trick that our grandparents used and didnt even think twice about. They used to rub alchol…like rum on the gums. It does help, but I dont know how well you would like that idea.

hi-my poor baby is going through this too-she is only 9 weeks.
dont give advil though– give baby motrin for the pain & baby tylenol for any fever
my baby also loves her formula cold, straight out of the fridge right now.
while she is eating she chews like crazy on the cold nipple.
try that, it may work for your nephew.

Clove essential oil diluted in cooking oil (pure essential oils with hurt and cause irritation, always check the dilution on yourself first before administering to children) is a highly effective topical pain reliever for teething. Clove oil is the main ingredient in many OTC temporary dental fillings.

Clove tea can also be used though it is less effective

My 4 month old is going through the same thing. He chews on his hands as well, he doesn’t want anything else. I have noticed he chews on the nipples of all of his bottles. He’s been so cranky lately. Teething sucks!! lol I don’t have an answer for ya, b/c I am going through it too. I haven’t found a solution yet, but there are some pretty good answers here.

Laura H is correct he is going to start to run a bit of a fever and she will need to give him something for it. There are way to bring a fever down with out drugs, but it easier using drugs. Has she contacted the baby’s doctor about her concerns. This is really the best thing for her to do. The baby’s doctor will take into consideration the drug problem and recommend the best procedure for him.
