first of all he didnt have enough respect to the safety of those on the road

second he came to a dentist appointment drunk.. wtf? does he have a drinking problem already? i mean dentist office are open 8-5 so im assuming he doesnt too well in school either even tho its summer.. and as a parent.. you should PROIBABLY nip this in the butt really quick.. because it doesnt seem like he is trying to get anywhere in life and with the encomoy being the way it is this isnt the time to mess around.. lol

he obviously offended your dentist or they woudlnt of said anything so yes an apology is probably the best way to go but punishment from you is NEEDED

I would ground my son (if I had a kid) f he was underaged drinking. and it makes it worse that he was driving also!! I would make him apologize also. You should definatley talk to him about it and i would ground him for like a month.

EDIT: O yeah, first ask him if he was drinking. then see if he tells you the truth.

I think it would be best to approach the situation calmly, but make sure it is known that the major issue with his actions is the issue of safety. He should NOT be driving drunk.
If you are not willing to issue a harsh punishment this time, threaten with severe consequences if he proceeds to abuse his freedom as a teenager.
I think an apology is a great lesson for him.

This is a very serious issue. Your son has exhibited some very self-destructive behavior and it should not be taken lightly. If he was intoxicated enough to have trouble talking, he certainly should not have been driving. He could have killed himself or others. Underage drinking is not all that uncommon, but when it gets out of hand enough where it interferes with everyday life, then it becomes a serious issue. This probably means that your son has been drinking for some time. You should definitely talk to him about this. It should be done in a calm and understanding manner. Ask him if he has a problem with alcohol. Ask him if he needs help. However that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be disciplined. I think it would be appropriate to take away his car for awhile, perhaps ground him from social activities. In the future, keep a close eye on his behavior and grades. As for an apology, I kind of think that it should be the other way around. Your son was under 18 and clearly intoxicated. Instead of calling you, they let him back out onto the street to be a danger to himself and others. He is a juvenile! Someone needed to take legal responsibility for him. I’m not real sure about the law, but I think that if he had gotten into an accident, they could have been held liable. He didn’t risk their lives. They risked his.
